Wonton Palace — Restaurant in Waterford Township

This is NOT a review of their food. Here's why: On Wed 12/26 we placed a phone order at 5:20 for 4 dinners. The very nice lady replied "Honey, it be 45 minutes. We waiting on broccoli, OK?" Since they we're from out of town visiting, & they're close to our destination, we agreed.

I arrived at the WTP at 6 pm & there were 5 people waiting. While there several phone calls, each answered by the same nice lady, w/ the same spiel: "OK, honey, 45 minutes!" And so on, w/ an order going out, then another member of her family arriving to help (I assume), a few more customers trickle in, a phone call, etc. I did alert her that I was there for my order. "Ok, honey, it's cooking, OK?"

So, by the time the original 5 customers ahead of me had rec'd their food, another 6-8 had arrived & either waited or returned, a total of 4 people came in to help, and I was able to determine that despite all the rave reviews @ the food, the time was now 6:50, & 90 mins was just too long of a wait! I called my wife, she & our family members were famished, so I left, after a brief discussion w/ others in line @ wait time.

Being a food service retiree w/ 35 years experience, I've been able to spot when & where a place falls short. We were really looking forward to a tasty, sumptuous meal from WTP, but NINETY MINUTES? I firmly suggest they give Bar Rescue a call! And enroll in the ServSafe program.

I gave 2 stars instead of 1 based on the faith of the 4-5 star reviews I read , of which there are many. That shows many others believe in Won Ton Palace. Maybe I will...

Wonderful wonderful food here. This is by far my favorite restaurant for Chinese cuisine, and just a favorite in general. The portions here are gigantic, so amazingly priced, and the food is always fresh.

I have been coming here since opening and have never had an issue with old, or bad food. I like to look over the menu and try new things often too, all of it has been wonderful. Jenny is always super kind too, she is always happy to answer all my questions about each dish before I order if I ever have any.

She has even been kind enough to make my favorite dish still even though it has been taken off the menu. I'll share a picture of it because of how amazing it was and looked, this dish is her home made noodles - yes that's right, she makes the noodles for this one fresh even. You gotta call in advance for these though. That is the kind of dedication that is put into the food here. I had some green onion, chicken, shrimp, and other vegetables put into it, but here you are always able to customize orders to your liking and will not be missing out on size!

It is what it is, a Chinese restaurant without seating, the ability to on-line order or Door Dash/Uber? Basically 20th Century. Wish that would change as the food is GREAT, BOUNTIFUL and dang if they don't have the best Hot & Sour soup around, I mean the best. Again, the portions feeds an Army of hungry folks. Only though do I wish they would come into the 21st Century (online with current menu showing and also ability to order along with delivery service). As well, despise trying to get out of that shopping center while trying to continue EB on Cass-Elizabeth; and now with road construction closing down Cooley..no way. Nice hard working folks. The 3 stars for Atmosphere is the no seating and parking lot; the service only because of previously mentioned ordering issues and no delivery but in no way does this reflect their service which is way beyond exceptional. Maybe Craig Bryson and the Oakland County RC who hates Waterford will eventually fix that intersection too----how about left had turn lights Craig to help businesses in this side of Waterford...
