5 stars people really. Wow I'm just baffled. I just moved from New York and had my family visiting and wanted some rice and noodles. Was recommended here and I had high hopes for this place with all the great reviews and so many stars. But it by far is the worst Asian restaurant we have ever ordered from. I have had good and bad I understand they all cant be great. But to have soo many positive reviews and stars and taste that bad. It had lack of flavor needed seasoning, weird taste and the food seems old and frozen/store bought. But I had better potstickers from the frozen asle in walmart and the sauce was soo salty. The Lo mein noddle had no seasoning just thrown in a container with these huge unappealing vegetables on top. The fried rice had a weird taste both the pork and vegetable and needed seasoning. The sesame chicken sauce and general chicken was not good at all felt bad the chicken was killed and cooked in it. What a waste of a life. We ordered 7 different things from the menu and not one made sense to have a 4-5 star rating. If this is Wisconsin take on food. I might need to get our food shipped in from out of state or go to Chicago for day we want to eat out. Cause even the panda Express here sucks. I'll keep searching for good food out here but this is a...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant because their website says they were rated among the top 10 in America in 2010. Overall we felt it didn't live up to this claim. The dining room decor was charming, clean, and spacious. Staff were courteous and attentive. The crab Rangoon appetizer was freshly made, crispy on the outside, creamy & savory on the inside ... delicious! The spring rolls were overstuffed and greasy ... not good. The egg rolls were very heavy with grease, not freshly made, and the veg inside was thick with corn starch ... awful. The egg drop soup lacked the gelatinous body of a fine Chinese broth, the flavor was ok, but oddly served with saltine crackers instead of fried wonton noodles ... mediocre. Pork egg foo young were nicely pillowed, and made with fresh bean sprouts and other vegetables, not much pork (this is ok), but a flour-thickened gravy (not good) ... sadly better than average these days. Orange Chicken was made from frozen nuggets that were dry, and served swimming in a very sweet pineapple syrup ... below average. The Mongolian beef was mostly gravy and onions, the beef was fatty and chewy ... terrible. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but the restrooms are not. We would...
Read moreFor the area it is definitely the best Chinese place around. Seeing that I live in Chicago though and frequent China Town often, it's among the best, but I'm not sure about the top 10? It's so subjective...
That said... the fried rice is incredible! The lo mein noodles I wish were the thicker variety, but it's pretty good. It doesn't contain that same wok-hei that the fried rice has. But I'm just really picky... again considering where I actually live.
Got a sizeable dinner for my family who I visited in Oconomowoc. Oconomowoc does have a Chinese place but it doesn't hold a handle to Golden Gate!
It was so satisfying, and I'll definitely be by again even if it's just to cure my fried rice craving. Again... the fried rice here is just perfect! And fried rice is an ACTUAL authentically proper Chinese dish that actually made there.
That's why I prefer China Town in Chicago (a large neighborhood containing restaurants representing almost all regions in China)... real authentic Chinese. Y'all (Waukesha area population) literally don't know what you're missing. Should make the trip and find a place that sells proper Dan...
