Nothing special. I sat at the counter and ordered a spinach omelette. The omelette was at least 50% spinach, which I liked, but since the spinach came right out of the fridge onto the grill, the eggs were slightly over cooked and large lumps of spinach were still cold. It was still OK, could have been great had the spinach been brought up to temp first. The sides, toast and home fries were decent, nothing exceptional. The coffee was dreadful, typical food service grade stuff cooking away in the round Bunn carafes.
Lastly, there was way too much activity around the microwave. I don't know if they actually do serve instant oatmeal, but I watched the waitress cook two bowls, removing to stir a couple of times. It sure looked like instant. Then a guy in a Mel's shirt, a cook?, brought out several plastic food containers and spent a good 10 minutes cooking the contents in the microwave and putting it onto two plates. Could be his own lunch, brought from home, but cooking a full meal from Tupperware in front of customers paying for breakfast really doesn't look good.
Really not worth a return trip,...
Read moreFood was .... fine. All the staff I encountered were absolutely lovely and very friendly. The restaurant was clean and cozy, very busy. The blueberry muffin looked great, but, once the muffin paper was peeled off, completely fell apart. Though I had asked for the muffin to be grilled (and it looked like it had been), it was ice cold inside. Taste was okay, not a stand out My eggs, over easy, were done perfectly. I asked for my home fries to be well done. They weren't and were also room temperature. The grilled English muffin was barely toasted and not entirely hot. Lastly, I paid extra for turkey sausage. It, too, was almost cool when it got to my table. There was no indication that it had seen a hot pan --- no browning, no sear, nothing. It felt a bit rubbery. I ate about 30% of my food and was just done. Not a ton of flavor, temperatures were off on almost everything; I just lost my appetite. So, not great. The waitress did make a note of my allergy, which I always appreciate. I know that this place is very popular, but I won't be returning. There is lots of parking in a free busy, shared...
Read moreI was really happy about Mel's. Got breakfast, pretty exciting menu, interesting specials.
Ordered the Italian sausage breakfast platter. I love that my home fries weren't overcooked, tender... Scrambled eggs were okay... the sausage was really good. Strangely, I love that they put sauteed onions in my breakfast, which really made a big difference for me. This meal stood out a bit different from the regular typical greasy spoon breakfasts. I could tell there's a bit of love and thought behind it ingredients and how it's cooked.
My son absolutely loved the avocado eggs on toast breakfast.
I believe the juices are made fresh, which was pretty awesome.
Great menu, great service, great vibe. Some places the din is overpowering and it's hard to hear your own thoughts but this place felt really light, cheery, and lively.
It might be one of my new favorite breakfast places so far in the MetroWest.
It was crowded, no line for just me and my son. Appears to be a bit of a...
