Every time I drive by the lot is full and K.E. has been recommended by a few people, so my wife and I thought we would check it out.
First impressions: The restaurant is much to bright, stale decor, and loud as the atmosphere / acoustics is that of a high school cafeteria.
As we walk in the the dirty dish cart is the first think we see but as we find our own table things seem to be very clean and tidy. We also find the bathrooms to be clean as well.
Service: Very unprofessional. The greeter and server are both in sweatpants and sweatshirts. The other female server is also very casually dressed in some bright colored tights and casual shirt - again, am I in a HS cafeteria?
We almost got up and left after two tables who showed after us were served but our food finally came.
The server visited (if you could call it a visit as he ask if we needed anything as he cruised by) us once after the food was delivered and we actually had to go up front to pay the bill and get our own box for leftovers.
Food: The house salad was delivered first. Never had a worse salad. Iceburg lettuce, few shredded carrots, and a watered down, flavorless dressing (how do you make a flavorless ginger dressing? I did not know this was possible).
My wife ordered 3 sushi rolls. This was the reason why the two other tables were served before us. There was one chef making the rolls and you could tell he was overwhelmed. The rolls were pretty good, very comparable to the other places in town.
I ordered the steak and chicken combo. I did not have high expectations after our experience to this point, but I was very surprised at the quality. The dish was seasoned well, broccoli was cooked perfectly, chicken and steak were very good. I will not go as far as say great, but very good. 4 stars for the food.
The quality of this dish is why I gave an overall 2 star over 1.
Even though Kobe Express has the base to be a good restaurant (it has decent food), it has too many negatives make in into our short-term rental guestbook, there are many better restaurants in the area for...
Read moreI donât usually post reviews, but we had such a bad meal I felt I needed to mention it! The food was terrible - the teriyaki salmon was a thin piece of salmon smothered with wet teriyaki sauce like it just came out of a bottle and got poured on, with no grilled flavor to the salmon. The rice took up most of the plate and had no flavor, as well as the vegetables that came with it - over cooked and with no flavor at all. The whole plate was dripping with a greasy sauce on the bottom of the container in the bag! One of our sushi rolls tasted ok, but the other one after only a few pieces made me completely sick to my stomach, which has not gone away yet hours later! Something inside of the roll did not look right after checking it, and I had to throw half of it away - afraid to eat the other roll now! The egg rolls were greasy and paper thin. This meal was completely a waste for the amount I paid, and very disappointing - almost all of it got discarded! The only halfway decent thing was the staff, who were friendly and courteous. Again, I donât usually post, but would not want anyone else to get sick, or waste money! Maybe it was a bad night for the chef?! Needless to say, we...
Read moreHave eaten here a few times for lunch and dinner. Menu is the same all day and there is no special deals offered. Service has always been efficient and pleasant. All items are a la carte so you need to add for soup and/or 2 small egg rolls. The main dishes consist of chicken or beef with rice and various vegetable offerings. I attach great weight to value when rating a restaurant and this place falls very short in that category. The entrees start at about $11.00 OR $12.00 AND GO as high as $14.00.Portions are very small consisting of a small mound of rice,a few pieces of meat with a scaterring of vegetables.I could easily eat 2 of these plates and still be hungry and adding 2 small egg rolls wouldn't satisfy me. I don't enjoy dropping close to $20.00 for a meal if you add the rolls and soup and then leave with thoughts of heading to Wendy's for a burger. Here in Bklyn I have a chinese lunch which consists of a hugh main dish, soup and an egg roll for $11.79 and usually take home half the main dish.If your going to eat at Kobe don't...
