I don't write many review and do not like leaving negative reviews....especially for nice folks in a small town. Both waitresses I talked to were nice. This is not a reflection on them.
Maybe this was an exception, but I had a complaint with about everything I ordered. I ordered an ice tea, but it was yellow because it was so weak, and it tasted horrendous. I got water instead and it was just as bad. I guess it was well water? Not totally their fault, but they could use a water filter, or at least give a warning. The salad was good but the dressings were not good.
Then the fried shrimp came. They looked fine, but the taste was very rubbery. There is a growing trend for restaurants to pre-cook their shrimp before frying. (Boiled shrimp, then fried). I can tell it every time by the appearance and texture of the shrimp inside the batter. I suppose it helps the shrimp have a longer "shelf life" but appalling if you ask me. The baked potato was old and pre-cooked. It was wrapped in tinfoil and had a dark brown juice in the bottom when I took the foil off. I didn't send this meal back, but I should have.
So then I decided to give them one more chance and got a nice looking slice of coconut cake from the display case. Nice looking was the key here because when I could hardly cut into it with my fork. I took a half of bite and told the girl I couldn't eat this. Hard as a rock almost.
Ok....I know some places have off days, and this may have been one of them. But everything I ordered was not good.
THEN...the kicker was when I paid, they have the computerized pay thing they bring to your table. Put my card in and there was the price......and add tip. The choices were: 20%, 30% and 40%!!! I could not believe my eyes! I suppose there was a spot to add a "custom" tip but I was astonished. Not even in the highest end restaurants do they have the gaul to give those high of choices.
I was just passing through and ask a guy at the gas station for a good spot to eat and he recommended Shrimp-R-Us.
This is just a recommendation for the owner. Stop pre-cooking your shrimp. Watch your food quality.....and PLEASE lower those...
Read more6 of us went today. My husband an his brother were taking their dad out to eat shrimp he wanted for Fathers Day. We go in sit down an got ignored. We were ghosts cause no one acknowledged we were there. Servers passed by us repeatedly. My father n law went up to cashier twice an was told the server be there shortly. Never arrived. We weren’t asked about drinks silverware or even offered menus. We continue to wait. Finally my husband walks up to front an asks for menus so we can be ready if the server ever comes. We were there very close to 30 minutes. People after us sat down an got their orders taken an we were ignored. This was the rudest blatant act of unprofessional incompetence I have ever experienced. I know it’s been yr since we traveled down from Jacksonville to go there to eat but this poor manner of how customers are treated is beyond ridiculous. My father n law was upset an got up an left with us following. I told the cashier what I thought of our treatment an my husband told a server how he felt about the way they treated us was very disappointing. I will not be ever coming back here again cause clearly management doesn’t have better standards for their servers to follow. An know it wasn’t packed there was several empty tables. If I could give minus stars I would do so. Shrimp R Us More You need to do more do better. Small town restaurant with big city rudeness how truly...
Read moreWe live less than 5 minutes from the restaurant and use to eat here 3x a week Have not eaten here in over a year due to a bad experience. Thought we’d try again.. since there are new owners. Hoping to finally have decent food nearby to eat again. Well… We definitely have written it off our list. The grilled shrimp I had was way over cooked and dried out. There was no seasoning on it. I felt like I was eating little pieces of leather. Almost like they had been cooked prior, were refrigerated and reheated .( not saying they were but that’s the texture that had) The mahi mahi my husband got, grilled as well, was just as dry and unseasoned. Way over cooked… Almost looked like the frozen plank mahi mahi you get from the grocery store and fix at home. His baked potato has been sitting there apparently for hours : it was hard and gummy, not light and fluffy like a fresh baked potato. ( I used to manage a restaurant so I know the quality food should be at) The hush puppies were a disappointment as well. Those are not true southern hush puppies. The good part: my sweet potato and our side salads, oh and the sweet tea. The staff is nice and the remodeling looks great.., just not nice enough to make us come back and spend the amount we did on these 2 meals. Very sub par. It was not worth the money we spent...
