Let me start off with the positive... the food was delicious! They have a new sushi menu so I decided to give the Snow Crab California roll a try. Chef's kiss The crab is fresh, not imitation. It's delectable plain as well as it is dipped in soy sauce and dressed with wasabi and ginger. I was good and hungry which is why I also ordered the Alehouse burger (brisket and waygu beef) that was quite satisfying. Cooked just right, flavorful and came dressed in bacon. I'd definitely visit the sushi menu again due to the vast selection. Oh, the holiday drink menu has some nice selections. I can't remember what I ordered but it hit just right. Something with apple cider. lol
The atmosphere is clean, spacious and accommodating for all ages. There is the option to enjoy traditional restaurant seating, sports bar/pub seating or cozy seating in a beautiful fireplace area. The arcade area is bright and inviting. It's definitely family friendly. The holiday decor adds a magical touch.
Now for the not so positive... Yeah, I was really disappointed in the service. I was there with a group. A waitress brought over an appetizer that was ordered before I arrived. As she stepped away, I asked could I speak to her about my particular allergy. She informed me that the bartender (who was very busy) would take my order. I said I understand but since she delivered our order AND the bartender was swamped, I figured that I'd speak to her. She informed me that she'd have to speak to the kitchen. Again, I understand. I thanked her and waited. The waitress walks away in the opposite direction of the kitchen (we were standing just a few feet from the kitchen doors). I stand patiently and then I notice the waitress and a plain clothes woman (likely a manager? I wouldn't know because one never came over to speak to me which happens in most restaurants) looking over at me. They couldn't have been more obvious that the conversation was about me. It was very uncomfortable. Another employee joins them and they're all looking at me and then at each other. I walked back over to my party because I didn't want the stares anymore. They were still chatting and looking over at me. I sat and waited. Several people in my party asked if I put an order in. "No, the waitress never returned and gave me an update." Everyone is surprised because about 20mins has gone by since I spoke to the waitress. She actually walked past me three times without any acknowledgement. Finally, a waitress comes and asks our table if we'd like to place an order. She asked the person close to her if anyone had allergies. The person says "yes, please talk to her. Thank you". The waitress was nice, accommodating and efficient. So much so, she would inform me if an order coming to the table had my allergen in it. She is the reason I gave service three stars because if it had not been for her, I'd not given any. The people in my party agreed. I waited over 30mins to put an order in. I spent over $40 plus a 25% tip. For clarity, my allergy is specific. When I dine out, I always explain and ask for suggestions from the kitchen. It makes for a better culinary experience. I'll also note, I'm not new to this restaurant. I've been a patron to the establishment for over a decade (before it was Barrett's and since it's become Barrett's). Would I visit again, yes because I'm not a one and done girl. Although the service started as less than desirable, the second waitress and bartender made up for it and the food was worth every penny. Barrett's chill place and my hope is that they read the review and not ever fumble the ball like this...
Read moreYikes. Where do I begin? I was a guest at a wedding here on April 6th 2019 and let me just set the stage that this place has NO BUSINESS running events, let alone ones that serve alcohol! Never in my life have I experienced such an inconsistent, unclear, disorganized and rude establishment. This is someone’s wedding day! This place ruined their one and only special day, bottom line. How?
Let’s start with their “house” ID policy. I saw a woman in her SIXTIES get turned away because she didn’t have a drivers license, passport or Mass liquor ID. She had a MASS STATE ID which is GOVERNMENT issued and every other establishment in the state of Massachusetts accepts this as a form of ID.
Now, let’s say hypothetically you make it through their ID gauntlet as I did and are actually allowed to purchase a beverage, better order strategically. What do I mean by that? Well they monitor your frequency, one drink an hour? Sure that would be acceptable. Shoot I’d accept ANY policy if they had one. They don’t have one. They fly by the seat of their pants and make up rules as they go. I saw one guy order 3 drinks, no issues. I saw another one order one drink, then go up 15 minutes later to order a drink for his date and he was SHUT OFF for the night. Yes, the entire night. A one off you say? Nope, they shut off half the wedding. I talked to one guest that made the mistake of trying to order her FIRST drink about 2 hours into the event, denied.
Ok, let’s put that aside for a minute. What if I told you as part of the wedding, the event planner Abigail, told the bride and groom that as part of their “package” they’d have a small section of the main bar/restaurant sectioned off for an after party. Nice right? Only one problem. The door guys made the executive decision to not let ANYONE from the wedding into the restaurant. Didn’t matter if you had zero drinks or 3-4, you weren’t getting in there!
Ok, time to escalate right? Bride and groom ask to talk to the manager....no manager. Ok, can we talk to the owner who was here earlier? Nope! They LEFT! The poor bride and groom were deveststed, and I can’t say I blame them. Essentially a 4 hour, life changing celebration they booked turned into a 3 hour stress filled conflict.
Don’t get me started on the staff. Smile. Be friendly, your a part of someone’s day. If you can’t handle that, don’t work these types of events!
Barrett’s, if you even care, get some clear policies in place and communicate them to your guests. It’s not hard, I’d be willing to bet if people knew that this would be how their event would go they would not book with you. You’re ruining people’s...
Read moreI guess my review might be a little different than some of the other reviews on this site, but I think that criticism is a great learning experience for establishments.
That being said, I showed up today to eat lunch with a party of people at a table. It took us about an hour for them to take everyone's order. The drinks arrived after about 15 minutes and the food came about a half an hour to 40 minutes after that. One meal was the fish and chips, the fish was dry and the best part of the plate was the lemon. The second dinner my party ordered was the wagyu burger. I ordered it medium rare with sweet potato fries. It came completely rare and the sweet potato fries were extremely chewy and undercooked.
The waitress Had an attitude when we reached out to her A few times for our table comment after she walked by as maybe 20 or 25 times before actually looking at our table. The booth near the kitchen where the waitresses stand, they were all there chatting while the room was extremely busy and then they would run out and try to serve five tables really quick. When I asked her again for my bill to be separate, she told me she didn't know that and gave me a little attitude about it. Walked off with my debit card and came back 20 minutes after that with the receipt. We also asked where the high chairs were and the waitress said she would be back with one. It took 35 minutes before we decided to go look for one ourselves.
And a $20 bill ripped in the gaming machine and that was pretty much the tip of the iceberg for my experience here at this establishment. I wouldn't recommend this place on a busy day to anyone, because it's apparent that they don't know how to keep up with the increase orders and have servers that can come to your table at a timely manner without an attitude. This is the first time probably in a couple years that I've given a less than 20% tip. To be quite honest I probably shouldn't have left the tip at all, but even though I'm being extremely critical of this place, I'm not a...
