This review is for all the negative people who don’t know how to appreciate a FAMILY Owned business that has been standing since 1951.

The “famous fish sandwich” on a “hotdog bun” is still the best fish sandwich around in central Pa. & Their milkshakes are just as amazing!

Their customer service could improve. “But how happy would you be working in the heat with rude customers like yourself”.

They are NOT your typical waitresses, they are NOT there to run back and forth 101 times to your vehicle. They have many other people to care for. But if you could do better, then maybe ask for an application.

I will agree on the comment about the seafood basket. It is very dry and always burnt like. Just because it’s seafood doesn’t mean it all cooks at the same time.

But people need to appreciate and lift up small businesses more instead of throwing them into the dirt, especially a business that has been standing for generations and more to come.

No restaurant is perfect and no owner has ever claimed to be, and every business appreciates their customers, but not all customers are right. Some even Jesus...

For me, The Fence was only "ok".

I think if you're local, and if you have memories of your family coming here to chat with each other and eat by the river, it's a better experience because you see it through the lens of that history.

We were passing through and wanted to have dinner at a local place that wasn't part of a corporate owned chain.

The fish was ok, but not great. The breading on mine wasn't completely cooked in a few places.

The cabbage slaw was nearly pureed, which was very unusual. It tasted fine, but chewing it didn't make it any less hard to eat - you could pretty well swallow it without chewing, like pudding.

Very limited menu choices, which is fine, but rather than "do only these two or three things and excel at them", the food felt pretty mediocre in quality, preparation, presentation, and portion size.

At the time of our visit, The Fence was CASH ONLY. No Visa/MC/Discover or Google Pay or anything else.

If you're going to The Fence, go there because you want to enjoy the scenery and the experience of spending some time near the river while eating and you won't be...

Very good food, especially the scallops, the shrimp, and the fries. The fried fish, chicken, and the cabbage also were good, just not as good. Not a fan of the lemonade.

The cabbage was a good alternative to regular coleslaw, but it depends on whether you like celery seed. Not that there was much in there, but a couple of us are not fans, so we wouldn't get it again. But, honestly, if you're good with celery seed, it was good.

Great service! The young ladies certainly were attentive enough, and always were watching for new cars that pulled in.

You can sit in your car or at one of the tables that are available. They are normal wooden picnic tables, so the car might be more comfortable for you.

Very nice view of the river, especially on a nice day. But be careful backing out of your space when you're done, because there's not a lot of room from the parking lot to the street.

Overall, a fun place to visit, with very good food, and great service.

NOTE: They are a cash only business, and do not take credit cards. Supposedly there is an...

4pm on Mondays probably shouldn't include holiday Mondays like Labor Day. Out of towners beware cash or local check only no plastic payment accepted. A generational-seasonal staple it's not the fish it's not the bun it's the tarter sauce a mostly secret recipe for forever. 25-30 years ago you could buy by the pint or maybe quart at some of the local grocery stores but not any more. Only way to get it is at The Fence. Milkshakes are pretty good also. Car hop service, picnic table service and indoor seating for inclement weather.

This place is an institution. This was my son’s first public outing beyond the dr’s office because it’s just that important to me. The weather always feels perfect here, no matter what’s happening just 2 minutes down the road. Sitting out st the tables allows everyone to enjoy little slice of heaven on the river. We make all our friends and family come here and get a fish sandwich basket because ITS JUST WHAT YOU DO. Do not forget to end with a chocolate milkshake. It’s a thing of beauty.

The views are amazing. The food is just fine - it seems like what fast food must have been like before it was mass produced. Burger wasn't too dry, fries were nice and crunchy, chocolate milkshake tasted exactly like a chocolate milkshake should taste. It's not the best burger in town but you can't beat the ambiance and the servers are all very friendly and pleasant. I enjoyed sitting down surrounded by happy families chattering away.
