I am having a tough time grading this little gem!! I have it at a 92 (out of 100), how many points are 1. They made me a sesame garlic bread roll, not on menu. 2. $7.85, yes $7.85. 3. Bar; TVs, beer and no kids. 4. A Jack Daniels statue (and mini gruden). These facts prob add 4 points and make this top cheesesteak?? Yes/no. Either way I am very glad a finally found Colonial Cafe!! Another place I have driven by a thousand times. I would add a stop at Colonial Cafe to a day trip. According to memorabilia on walls, they appear to be very ‘civic minded’ which is always a plus.

This no frills establishment has been in business for a very long while. They’ve never been voted best of anything, and that’s good, cause it keeps it quiet for the locals. George and family keep the good sandwiches fresh and you can always find your standard beers as well as some great rotating taps. Have an orange crush for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It tastes the same no matter the time… delicious.

Lived nearby for three years and it's the first time trying this place. We ordered two chicken cheesesteaks. The flavors were delicious! I would get some more sauce next time (teriyaki & Guinness). The sandwiches are a bit on the smaller side but I would definitely order again!

Some friends my wife and I stopped by here for some food and drinks. To my surprise the whole place was newly renovated through Covid. And a new owner George. We spoke to George, very nice guy. Food prices were good. Only issue was they have a weird system. No waitresses, but they have tables. So if you sit at a table you have to squeeze between people at the bar to order food and drinks. Then they want you to run a tab. Almost making it a must, unless you force it on them to ring u out. They have an old system where they just put check marks on a order piece of paper as you order drinks. So when you get the bill not only can't you figure it out, but they can't either. We asked both bar tenders to explain. They grumbled at each other a little then the one bar tender, that couldn't explain got angry. Same bartender who earlier tried to ring us up twice for the same order. Stormed away and said she would just pay for it. The only reason we looked was because it seemed a little high. We added things up and could not come up with more then 68$ the bill was 110$ hmmm. Makes you wonder! Oh they only take cash. So we left the 110$ and left. We didn't want anyone to pay our way, but we weren't going to let them take advantage either. We wanted to call them out on it. And they way they got defensive immediately, and could explain makes you think. WHO ELSE ARE THEY DOING THIS TO? So if you go there make sure you make them pay as you go, or check your bill. Very uncomfortable situation. Sorry George, but you have some issues that need...

Seriously, an old staple, simple, straightforward, no frills slamming porkroll egg and cheese sandwiches. The amount of porkroll you'll see them slice up is crazy.

It's an old general store with old school candy not often seen around and Charlie's Chips in the nostslgic tins.

You'll likely have met the owner without even knowing... everyone seems polite, which has served me. It's the tiniest kitchen and deli. Everything's tasted good.. soups, sandwiches, and deli foods.

If you sit, you'll see one plate at a time come out, but it works here. Slow down, have a seat, and enjoy a good meal, good portion at a good price.

Great place to grab food before or after a nice walk in Allaire park

Time forgot this place, but in a good way.

P.S. Good is used a lot in this review... it's not mediocre.. there is just a goodness and simplicity to this place, and it's a pure...

The Colonial Cafe is your quintessential long-standing neighborhood bar, which has stood the test of time...outliving many chain restaurants and bars in the area. The walls are plastered with vintage bar signs and relics of the bar's past. They have a vast array of packaged goods for take out and you'll always be served with great service from all the bartenders and cooks. The Colonial stocks a diverse variety of revolving draught beer choices you don't often see anywhere else... like Rolling Rock and Miller High Life... my favorite. I love the great drink specials they offer as well... like this fresh watermelon crush made by one of the bartenders, Dino or the "hurricane shot". My favorite is the fresh squeezed Orangle Stoli crush though. If you're looking for a nostalgic hole in the wall with a friendly "Cheers" like vibe, The...
