I want to first say that I hope everyone goes to this restaurant and make their own independent assessments. I love mom and pop non-chain places. They deserve our support and business.
With that being said, I met a good friend for lunch. Parking was plentiful, we were greeted by a very friendly server, and sat where we wanted. Our server was very attentive and others pitched in when ours was called into another room for a few moments. The service was the best part of our experience. We both ordered one of the two combo meals available. The cost was very very reasonable.
The salads were great. The portions were excellent and generous. The lasagna was not delicious; I don’t know what it was, but it wasn’t like any lasagna I’ve ever had, and I’ve had authentic lasagna all the way to frozen grocery store lasagna. This lasagna was, I’m so sorry to say, really not good. My combo was lasagna, spaghetti, and chicken parm. Hers was the same except fettuccine Alfredo instead of spaghetti. The chicken parm was barely warm; it was as if had been warmed up vs made to order. And it was not delicious even if it had been made to order. The chicken appeared to be a frozen piece from a bag, with not much Italian or other seasoning.
It kills me to say all of this. I’ve heard about this place in the most loving and admirable terms for years, and this was my first visit. Maybe I had too high of expectations? Had others built it up too much? I don’t know.
I’m just sharing my lunch experience from one visit. I am so sorry — I wish this place only success, it’s obvious they’re a beloved and important community member. I hope my experience was completely aberrant and completely not the norm. This is why I encourage you to go yourselves and make your own assessments. May God bless the owners and all who work there.
PS. The one star for atmosphere has ONLY to do with the fact that when my friend and I looked up at the ceiling (to see if we were under an AC vent) we saw vents and whatever else that was up there FULLY covered in dark fuzzy dust and dirt. I felt terrible even seeing it. If they pay for cleaning, they must fire them. If they rely on staff, they must counsel them about everything that gets cleaned every night and how it’s to be done. The sight of that thick coating of dust and dirt was off putting; if we’d seen it before we were ready to leave we’d have left right away. We brought this to the attention of our server who seemed wholly...
Read moreIt was just alright. Took a little longer than it should for our waitress to introduce herself. My dad came the day before and ordered a beer and was super impressed that they gave him a frosted mug for it and he raved about it. But this visit he simply got the bottle. Seems a bit inconsistent and shows that some staff will go out of their way and others won't. The salad that I got had a little too much brown for my liking although the dressing and bleu cheese was good. The dinner rolls weren't as soft as I'd like and I couldn't tell if they were homemade or store bought. The garlic butter was a bit of a let down it could have been a little bit stronger. The actual real bomb was the prime rib beef. They charged $25 bucks for something that taste like it was out of a box. It was VERY VERY fatty. The au jus tasted like it was the soupy part of a pot roast and I don't mean that in any good way. The real indication that a place isn't very good is by the average hair color of the customers. When you walk in and notice that there are mostly grey and white haired people it's usually because the food being served only taste good to someone dying or smoked their whole life and can't taste the difference between a filet Mignon and a shoe lace. It wouldn't have been so crappy if the bill wasn't 80 bucks for three people. My fettuccine was probably the best thing on the table. Our guess was their specialty is pasta dishes but I've made better Alfredo sauce at home with garlic salt and heavy cream. We probably won't be back. Not really sure how they have such high reviews on here but my guess is the young employees that are probably family have something to do with it.....if Gordan Ramsay did his show here he would defiantly not enjoy anything they brought to the table. OH and I almost forgot, for 80 bucks for 3 people I'd expect my pasta would have been made in house. It most defiantly was out of a box. If it wasn't, then they have 100% mastered the ability to mock processed noodles and someone should hand them a degree in chemical engineering. Again,...
Read moreThe place was nice. The service was good. The food was mixed - meaning, some of it was pretty good, but some of it was really not good. I had the Italian Combination II. It consisted of chicken parmesan, lasagna, and fettuccini Alfredo. We were also served bread and salads. The bread was pretty good, and the fact that they served it with real butter made it that much better. The salad was fresh. I had opted for the ranch dressing. My suggestion is to order it on the side, as my salad was almost drowning in it. For the main course - The lasagna was pretty good. It had lots of layers with Italian sausage in between each layer of pasta. I myself would have liked cheese in between each layer as well more sauce. For the worst part of the plate - the fettuccini Alfredo - it was awful. It was a very salty bechamel sauce with absolutely no hint of parmesan. It was as though someone forgot to add that to the sauce. Now for the best part - the chicken parmesan - simply DELICIOUS! The breading was nice and crisp, the chicken was tender and the sauce was perfect. It had a nice amount off melted cheese on top. I highly recommend foreboding the combination entrees and just go straight for the chicken parmesan. There were no dessert items on the menu, and in fact, a sign on the front door as you walk in stated that they no longer offer homemade desserts. Which was disappointing. All in all, it was a cozy atmosphere with good service and mediocre food. At $19 for a full plate and $16 for a half of a plate, I'm not sure if the price...
