Paul's Place — Restaurant in West Milford

Just came to eat here after many years and wasn’t that impressed and it pains me to write this because Paul’s place has many special memories for me and my spouse ! The waitress wasn’t exactly the kindest to me and maybe she was having an off day it’s not to say she wasn’t great to other people or maybe more of her “ regulars”?!

Who knows, but I found with me sadly that wasn’t the case.

I ordered small fries with gravy and cheese and I even pointed to it on the menu for her so when she comes back with plain fries I said ok maybe she simply forgot which is fine “hey it happens !”

I waited patiently for her little rush of customers to leave and stated kindly we would like gravy and cheese to be added to the fries and she replies “ just so you’re aware you did order plain fries… “ I was baffled that as a paying customer I was spoken to in such a tone and manner… uhmm wait a min here I even pointed to the menu where it shows gravy and cheese, I asked her if the small was still substantial for my family and she said yes it was and I said ok I’ll take the small with the gravy and cheese , however that’s besides the point it’s a little rude to be passive to a paying customer in that manner, she was then serving other customers who were there after us and some how getting their food first ?!

We have two small kids with us and ordered them two plain hot dogs, I got a BLT and husband got a bacon cheese burger all the way …. It’s not a complicated order…I wouldn’t think? lol I can’t believe this is the same Paul’s place I would go to consistently over the years and this is now what it is…. Again this saddens me to write this because over the years I’ve had some GREAT meals and never had any issues ever….

My all the way sauce had a shard, something clear in it. Obviously I didn't know, bit down and cut the side of my mouth. Took it to the owner and his response still has me saying WTH is going on in here. He did offer me a new plate, but that wasn't my concern. I was wondering why he didn't rush in the back and discard the rest of the sauce. What if someone else actually swallowed what ever that was. I immediate left, leaving my husband behind. Husband get out to the car and said how apologetic the owner was to him... Umm that didn't happen to him it happened to me😳 Always loved that place since I was a teenager, not so much the food but the owners response is what will probably never make me go...

The food was great as always, but the service was horrible. Walked in and was ignored although there was only one other family in the place. I sat down with my family and waited about 5 mins before the young lady working rudely said, “ you can order at the counter whenever you’re ready “ while giving the other family their food. I went to the counter and ordered, she seemed irritated to take my order. Once she brought the food out she made 3 separate trips to my table, and each time I said, “ thank you”, I was ignored. I went to the counter to pay for my food, handed the young woman my money.. In return she slammed my change on the counter and walked off. Very...
