THE WONDER BAR STEAKHOUSE — Restaurant in West Virginia

4th visiting the restaurant. Last time we will be going to the Wonder Bar. Service horrible. No attention to detail. Server more worried about cleaning and resetting tables. Ordered two appetizers and the server added a third. Never asked us if we needed refills we had to ask him. Most of the food was luke warm. My daughters food was taken to the wrong table so she did not even eat when the rest of us did. No apologies. Just "we are remaking it". My other daughter ordered her steak medium well. Came out rare. She ordered cowboy butter they forgot about it and than brought it out cold in a metal dish. Who wants cold butter on their steak? My other daughter's boyfriend ordered the truffle butter. They forgot that. When asked for it it came out melted in a dish. Which is fine. Forgot his sour cream and butter for his baked potato. How? Came back with two butters because they ran out of sour cream. Why not tell him that when he ordered his meal. Maybe he would have picked a different side. Ordered two pieces of peanut butter pie to go. Each piece was half the size it was from our last visit. I did not talk to the manager because my family did not want to be embarrassed. For fine dining this was worse than going to a fast food restaurant. We had a reservation for 6 people at 8:00. Got in on time. That was the only good thing that happened tonight. We sat in the bar area by the windows. Round table. If I remember the waiters name I would put it in the review. Highly disappointed with the experience. Spending over $400.00 for 6 people should deserve something much better than...

This occurred Friday November 8th 2024. Family, all from out of town but former residents of Clarksburg had reservations for a party of eight at 8:00 . We got there a few minutes early and were behind another group of six. They said they had reservations for 7:30 and were still waiting to be seated which they were about 15 minutes later. That should have been a warning. We were finally seated at 8:30. By now we had lost two of our party. Our server was great, set us up and took our appetizer and drink orders. The drinks came in a timely manner, but we waited and waited for the appetizers. No explanation for the delay. Now it's going on 9:30, Our food order was taken and we waited and waited. We discussed leaving but we really wanted to eat at the Wonder Bar and thought surely our food will be out soon. We watched numerous people leaving until finally it was just our party and another that were left in the restaurant. They were actually setting up tables for the following day. By now it's 10:30. We asked our server what the delay was and he said that they were catering a private event downstairs and the orders were backed up. We finally were served about five minutes later and I had mine boxed up because I don't usually eat supper at 11:00 o'clock at night It will be a long time if ever that I return to the Wonder Bar. When you are dining at the most expensive restaurant in town you would at least expect the courtesy of an explanation why things are taking so long, but that did not happen. I think they might just be banking on ...

I have wrote a review on the Wonder Bar before - when I did so I recommended a hostess desk at the door for seating. We were there Saturday night - and they now have a hostess desk! Also, blocked off view of the bar area when you first enter. Very nice! We do all of our special occasions with family and out of town guests here. Saturday we celebrated my husbands parents 61 wedding anniversary (Wow, I know right?). Every one was pleased with their food - from the swordfish and filet mignon to the prime rib and the salmon - all was very good. They actually served us complimentary champagne after the dinner - which was so very sweet and thoughtful. The waitress was very nice and efficient. We are always just a little bit more pleased with our visit each time we go. For those who complain about being seated in the bar - this usually only happens when you have not made reservations. Yes, it may be louder - but it is the mingling place for those meeting before dinner and they seem to always be having fun. But if thats not your thing - a reservation will help avoid that. We think they do an amazing job of making sure that they do not have to turn anyone away - which we greatly appreciate. Good work Wonder Bar - we plan to keep coming!
