Ugh, wanted so much for this place to be a nice close donut place and in theory they are. If they had actual donuts and not empty display racks it would be even better. When I was pulling into 7 Eleven next door I saw cars backing out of the drive through, that was interesting and I noted that there was a small red car at the window followed by a big pickup truck so that stuck in my mind. When I came out of 7 Eleven the cars had not moved. I drove over and parked by Donutsville, could have walked but was being lazy I guess. I went in and the order line was to the door, no problem as I expected the link to move quickly at a donut place. The red car was still sitting at the window. The line inside was not moving and the drive through line was not moving either. Okay lets start paying attention, I watched the guy cashiering writing down some hurried notes on post its, then another person, manager maybe came to the counter to do the same thing. The other person, a lady did go over to the order spot and started to help the counter. I noticed that the shelves were pretty barren and that people were asking "do you have this" and making an order, to be fair the commitment of the wait kinda made you want anything rather than just walk away. So moving on, I was watching the cashier and he would wear one glove and handle the money with the other, that was okay if he stuck with that. I watched him grab coffee cups with his fingers in the cups, yup the money handling hand in your coffee cup. Fast forward a bit and it was my turn at the counter, both the red car and the truck in the drive through had moved out of the line by now, I can't say that they got their order or just pulled through. Okay, i'm at the counter, I want three donuts, nope, out of that and out of that, well that's two strikes, no need to try for a third. From entering the door to the time I left with nothing but disappointment was 15 minutes. So what to do? I would drive from 112th and Sheridan to 6th and 287 to another donut shop. So here is the rub, I drove to the other place, walked in and was 3rd in line, I was out in 4 minutes and back home in less time than I waited in line at Donutsville. Is this the common at Donutsville? Well with the other reviews I am reading I dont think its uncommon but since that was my first visit it will also be my last. My recommendation, drive to 6th and 287 where they say "hi" and "we will be right with you", have what you want, say "thank...
Read moreThis review is just regarding the donuts here. These are perfectly mediocre donuts with premium prices. First, the good and the cause of the 2 stars: the double decker donut (DD) and the toasted coconut bavarian (TCB) donut. If you must go and get donuts here, get those two. I've tried almost all others and they just aren't that good. The fundamental flaw is the dough. It's too dense. This makes almost all of the donuts too chewy and minimizes the flavor/sweetness. So you get extra donut calories with less enjoyment. The DD seems to overcome this fundamental flaw by being flakier because it has layers of dough that seem to allow it to fry to a fluffier consistency. The TCB has enough overall flavors and cream to help soften the bites and overcome the thick dough. The Angel Creme Puff could be a good donut if they actually put some creme in it, but the paucity of creme is immediately overcome by the thick dough which just leads to disappointment thinking about what could have been. Similar story for the jelly donuts. For simple glaze/frosted/donut hole type donuts you'll do yourself and your wallet a favor by just getting a mediocre grocery store donut instead. If you want an actual good donut, not too far away, go to 5280 donuts about a mile away. Everything there is good to excellent. The presence of 2 good donuts here is simply not enough to bring me back anymore. The drinks and/or other products may be great, but I have no interest in those. The presentation of the donuts is fantastic with giant clear cases to easily see everything. However, this leads to a disaster if ordering inside as you have to shout orders over the case and pray that the worker hears/understands you. I was super-hopeful for this place and I'm a dedicated enough donutphile to have stuck through almost their whole donut menu, but, sadly, it was a big letdown. That's all I have to...
Read moreAverage donuts at premium prices. Donutsville offers an aesthetically pleasing selection of raised, cake, and filled donuts, displayed in a glass case near the register. I've tried a few varieties since they've opened, and while they're all good (I mean, it's sugar and fat, what's not to like?), I'm always left a bit stunned by the price relative to the quality. Today we paid $8.11 for three donuts. Yikes! A half dozen is $9.99, which seems more reasonable, but since I don't want the extra donuts lying around, buying more to save money just doesn't make sense for us.
The flavor is more sweet than anything else and most of the raised variety lack the light and airy taste I like in a good donut (5280 Donuts wins on this front). The exception to this is the angel cream puff. That one has yet to disappoint, but at approximately $2.70/donut, I'd rather have a King Soopers $0.69 donut. They are nearly as good (especially the filled maple logs), and don't leave me wondering if I blew too much money on a donut.
I've yet to try anything else on the menu (boba teas, specialty coffees and sandwiches) so I can't comment on those, but it's nice that you have that option. The staff has always been friendly, even on the rare occasion that the line is long. And if you want to eat-in there are a few two-seater tables off to the side. We prefer to take our donuts to go and eat them at the picnic tables at Westfield Village Park (located just a short walk/drive away, a little northeast).
Take-away: this is on of those places I'll probably revisit simply based on its proximity to my home and the consistently friendly staff, but if I want a really really good donut, I'll drive a little ways to a...
