Sent to Hideaway 4/16 with no response, so here it is:
We visited your restaurant for the first time last night (4/15) for a birthday celebration. It was snowing quite heavily so perhaps it was just not the best night or the A-team was not in the kitchen. Whatever the reason, we left very disappointed. I know times are tough in your industry and we try to support local business as much as possible so, instead of leaving you a bad review online, I wanted to reach out directly and share our experience.
After being shown to our table, it took a while to get service. We were seated in a main thoroughfare and several times I tried to get the attention of the passing staff but nobody would even look our direction. While we were waiting, what looked to be a manager stopped by the table next to ours to check on them but completely ignored us sitting there without even a glass of water. It got to the point that we were laughing about being ignored by so many people. When he arrived, Conor apologized for the wait and did as nice a job as he could - I’ve no complaints about him.
We both began with the Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned. Our first drinks were served in dirty glasses. My husband’s glass was smudged, my glass was filthy, with remnants of lipstick around the rim and so much crud on the outside that I could feel the texture of it. My drink also had a black piece of something floating in it. I tried with a fork but I was not able to retrieve the black item out of my drink to figure out what it was. Stopping by to ask about our drinks, Conor seemed appropriately horrified and both drinks were sent back for replacements. When replacements came they were fantastic - truly one of the better cocktails I’ve ever had.
Our first course was caesar salads. The dressing was tasty but the lettuce was not particularly fresh - it was limp and tasted as though it had been in a bag. The croutons were totally worthless and devoid of any flavor - just dry white bread.
After the drinks and the salads, I asked my husband if we should just pay our bill and leave. At this point it was nearing 8pm and we did not want to find another restaurant in a snow storm, so we stayed.
For our main meal, my husband had the 10oz filet with Brandy Peppercorn Demi on the side, and I had the Filet Oscar. Both steaks were ordered medium-rare and were served WAY over on the rare side. On your menu these are described as “fork tender”... only if one's fork has a serrated edge. The big disappointment was my Filet Oscar. Instead of quality lump crab, what I got was a sad pile of waterlogged, gray-ish shredded crab meat that tasted like it had been held in the kitchen for too long. It was really just gross. I pushed it to the side and didn’t even bother. The béarnaise was tasty, and the asparagus being split and grilled was a nice touch.
Our sides: Brussels Sprouts - Had great flavor but were very undercooked and had almost zero color. It was difficult to even stab them with a fork. Garlic Whipped Potatoes - Very dry, almost crumbly texture and lacking seasoning. We left most of these on the plate. Mac and Cheese - Pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was really delicious.
For dessert we shared the Creme Brûlée which had a fantastic flavor and consistency but the top was only caramelized in the very middle, leaving a good portion of the edges gritty with raw sugar. We ate around those parts. My husband described his black coffee as “old and a small step up from Folgers”.
As a whole, the experience last night was pretty much an abject failure. I don’t mind spending money on good food but last night, for two people, we spent nearly $300 and the quality wasn’t even on par with your average national chain steakhouse. Only two items - the cocktails (once we got clean glasses) and the mac & cheese - were what I would consider “good”. The manager I had seen going around to other tables throughout the night never visited us to inquire about our meal or I would have shared all of this with him. Conor did his best but your kitchen was not helping him win...
Read moreWell let's start with the good. The drinks and appetizers were very good. We had the mussels and the alligator apps and they were both something to recommend.
Now for the bad.. We ordered salads, the wedge and the beet. The wedge was just lackluster for the price. It included bacon bits not real bacon and two slices of cherry tomatoes. The beet salad was underwhelming and the beets tasted canned.
The entrees we're the Ribeye special and the fillet. With the ribeye special we ordered two diver scallops as a side. The horseradish encrusted ribeye had for some reason balsamic vinegar on it which created a really weird taste mixed with the wet texture of the horseradish was less than appealing. On top of that, the diver scallops which were cooked perfectly, unfortunately, we're spoiled and tasted like ammonia. Management did take those away and did reduce our bill based upon the spoiled scallops. Management did come over and address the table about the scallops and assured us that we would not be sick because they were only a day old. Interestingly, I had never worried about being sick cuz I only ate a piece of it, but it was just a little bit bizarre that that was how it was addressed rather than if there's anything that could be done to correct it.
The filet was ordered with shrimp scampi side. This is the first shrimp scampi I've seen that was in a thicker orange sauce that really did not resemble what you would anticipate to be a scampi. The fillet was supposed to be served medium rare instead. Was definitely medium if not close to medium. Well. For the prices they charge at this restaurant, it was definitely disappointing. We eat at many fine steakhouses and I would have to say unfortunately this would not be one. We would recommend to anybody based upon our experience. For the prices that are charged in the level of the food delivered, it definitely is not one of the top spots to...
Read moreMy close group of friends and I go out on weeknights to nice dinners. We were all so excited to try Hideaway and I must write to say how disappointing it was. The server was so kind and professional and had only been there for a few months but did a great job answering all our questions and was very attentive. The wine was good, and the appetizers were as well. As other reviews state its pretty overpriced and not worth it. My husband and I were looking forward all day to the prime rib and it was beyond dry. My friends prime rib was not dry and you could see the juices on their plate. Mine was bone dry. All our sides were barley warm. When the owner came over to drop off a side, as the previous one was incorrect, I informed him that my meal was less than par. My issue is with the response from the owner, he just stared at us... I said “its fine we will pay for it but I just wanted to inform you that all our sides are cold and my prime rib is dry”. Then he just said "Well.... I guess the customer is always right. Ill take care of it". then walked away. I was shocked. I was hoping he would offer to get us a new one but apparently, he just took the prime rib off the bill. This is fine and I appreciate it, I did not want to pay for a meal I did not eat, however I was still hungry and wanted a steak that I came in for. I would have much rather payed for the prime rib and had a new one out that I could enjoy. There was very little empathy or sincerest in his voice and it seemed to have annoyed him that I would even complain. The transaction was so weird and all of us were confused. Right after my friends found a hair in their crab legs but refused to say anything after how bizarre we were treated. Overall, every person at our table had an issue with one or more item they ordered, and we still ended up paying $150+ excluding the prime rib. We all agree we will...
