It's really disappointing to have to review a poor dim sum restaurant especially since there's so much potential, but as reviews go, I think it's better to leave an honest review so that others understand what they're getting, in the hopes that the restaurant will take it upon themselves to do better than this. I came this morning with my wife, and we're both huge foodies and have had dim sum all over the world including Hong Kong, Toronto, Vancover, San Francisco, Chicago, and of course our home town of New York City. We've eaten at some amazing places, and some not-so-great. There are certain dishes that are dim sum staples like the crystal shrimp (ha gao) or siu mai, and personal favorites like king custard buns, or even chicken feet. Dim Sum restaurants have to know this: these staples must be done right--no excuses. Well, Kim Su had some very very mediocre ha gao, siu mai that tasted like there was SPAM in it, and custard buns that tasted like they were in the freezer for too long before they steamed it in a gym shower. It was really shameful to serve that to patrons while calling yourself a dim sum restuarant. I'm actually mad that they serve that stuff, and maybe the dim sum around the area is pure trash, but they shouldn't go down to the level of their competitors and instead strive for some semblance of excellence. 3-stars all around and that's only because I am being nice here. The tea... I almost forgot to mention the tea. No one even asked what kind of tea we wanted. We were just served some jasmine. That's just......
Read moreSo we came here last night for Mother’s Day celebration. It’s not a full house but there was a small wedding there mix with other diners like ourselves. We reserved 2 tables at 7pm. Table 1 ordered our first and then table 2. Tables 1 got our first dish at 7:45, second dish at 7:55 and 3rd dish past 8pm. After table 1 third dishes that’s when table 2 finally got their 1st dish. By 8:46, table 1 got a total of 4 dishes out of 8 but tables 2 finished all their’s courses which I believe was 9 dishes. Of course we sat and observed the restaurant and staffs and I have to tell you it was a joke. It was so unorganized, the waiters was all over the place, delivered food to the wrong table and ignoring tables that are in the far corners or by the front windows. All the diners are the same group of families from when we got there till when we left (2 hours later), also closing time. There were lots of upsetting diners. We ended up having them boxed our last 3 course that they forgot to serve us even after multiples reminder. On top of the terrible service, they have the audacity to include gratuity that we have to give. I’m never coming back here to dine again. It was the worst experience ever. And the food portion was half what seafood Cove would’ve serve, and was not cheap either. Some of their dish wasn’t even worth ordering. No wonder for a Saturday night they are not completely packed and no...
Read moreWe had high hopes for a delightful dim sum experience but were met with disappointment, primarily due to the apparent lack of attention to the preparation and presentation of the dishes. Our visit on a quiet Thursday morning prompted some initial concern due to the lack of patrons, which led us to cautiously select a few staple items to gauge the quality of the cuisine. Unfortunately, our concerns were validated when the dishes arrived at our table cold, notably diminishing our dining experience. Additionally, one of the items, a deep-fried Chinese hot pocket, was distinctly sour, suggesting a lapse in food freshness or preparation standards.Compounding our culinary disappointment was the interaction with the service staff. Their demeanor took a turn for the worse following our modest order, as they expressed dissatisfaction with the quantity of food we had chosen. When we shared our feedback in hopes of constructive communication, their response was dismissively rude, further souring our overall experience. It's disheartening when the passion and pride in one's culinary creations and service are not evident. A commitment to excellence in these areas can significantly enhance the dining experience, leaving guests with lasting positive impressions. We hope our feedback serves as a catalyst for improvement, encouraging a renewed focus on both the quality of the food and the customer...
