Oriental Pearl — Restaurant in Westport

The staff were not helpful or nice to me and my family. I feel that instead of going to this place you should go to a place with kindhearted employees. The food they served was cold. I paid a lot of money and it took so long to come out from the kitchen. I know the bands that play here are very popular, but the music wasn’t really my jam. The food didn’t look appetizing from me and my family’s point of view. On their website they have pictures of them advertising politics, which I don’t believe is very professional. The rice was dry, the chicken was undercooked, and the teriyaki chicken had way to much savory. The quality for the food did not fit the prices. I have definitely been to bad to bad Chinese food places, but this is by far the worst one. A lot of people were drunk and gambling unsafely. This place is most definitely for adults over the age of 21 and even if kid WERE aloud here it still wouldn’t be a pleasing to them. Their was a girl (who was a waitress) there that kept looking at my table and not serving me and my family, and leaving to help “cute men” and flirt with them, and not serving me and my family until we were about to leave. I don’t usually get sick from Chinese food, but this one took the spot and made me horribly sick. Inside was very unsanitary. I know for a fact that they overpriced me, because the menu had the food for a different price then the bill. The food feels like your biting into rubber and plastic. I had a party of 6 and we all agreed that the whole place is and will be overrated, and a disaster. My senior mother has a severe allergy and we warned our waitress, multiple times and the kitchen staff and the waitress acted like they weren’t listening to anything that we were saying, but the part about the allergy was that this is a serious matter about my senior mother’s safety.

Overall I believe this place is VERY OVERRATED AND OVERPRICED.

DON’T AND I MEAN DON’T GO...

This place is TERRIBLE. I ordered food here a week ago as I was trying to find a new place. It was DISGUSTING! Don't be fooled by the good reviews. They are inconsistent. It all had a smoky, medicinal taste to it and we had to throw it all away and we were very upset. Then we said, let's go tonight and see the live band. I figured I would give the food another shot because I was hungry. The service was TERRIBLE. They only had one waitress serving and she purposely would avoid my table to flirt with tables of men. Then she would take 20-30mins to bring a new drink. They tried to scam everyone that ordered French fries by giving then a small but charging for a large. Then at the end I went back and forth and decided to give the waitress a decent tip...15% which I usually do 20. She came and said "did I do something wrong? I don't work for free!!" I wad baffled!! Who does that? I told her she was out of place and she fought with me and told me not to come back even though I was nice and said I didn't appreciate her behavior and cursing! I went to the owner and he said "she has a right, don't come back" even though I didn't even get to tell him that I did indeed tip her fine. After leaving, they charged an extra $40 to my bill!!! We've been here twice - once on a regular week night when it was dead and the second time was New Year's Eve.

The first time, service was great and food was very fast. We didn't think much of it because the place was deserted.

On NYE, the place was packed to the point that you couldn't move and yet the service was incredible. We were seated in about 10 minutes (with a reservation), server came over right away and the food was on our table in under 15 minutes (!!)

Perhaps I had low expectations due to the insane crowd but I've gotten slower service at Taco Bell when we were the only people in the restaurant. I'm not kidding.

Food is very good and pricing is cheap compared to most.

I'm disappointed to see the # of poor reviews for the place because I couldn't recommend it enough. Maybe we were just lucky both times.

Update: since this original review, we've been here many more times. The server Steven is great.

My only real gripe is the pricing on their fountain soda which is higher than any other restaurant I've been to, even from a bar. But I won't ding them any stars since everything else on their menu is at least 20%-25% cheaper than it should be and would be anywhere else so I look at it as my fountain soda is...
