I visited Makris Diner today for breakfast, and while I noticed the many awards displayed on the walls, my experience was quite the opposite of what I expected.
I ordered a soda with a cup of ice, an omelet, and a side of bacon. For the omelet, I specifically asked that the vegetables and meat be folded inside rather than mixed throughout. I also requested to substitute the two standard sides with just fruit, and I was told there would be an upcharge—which I was fine with.
The first odd moment came when the waitress apologized, saying they were out of ice. A short time later, someone else brought me a cup of ice after all. When my omelet arrived, it wasn’t prepared as requested—the vegetables and meat weren’t folded in, and the dish came with potatoes I had asked not to receive. On top of that, the vegetables inside the omelet were raw, as if they hadn’t been cooked at all.
Finally, when the bill arrived, it was handwritten and difficult to read, with no itemized prices. From the total, I could tell they charged me full price for the fruit substitution.
YouTube is a good source to learn how to properly make an omelet. If a restaurant wants to justify charging all the money then consistency and quality should...
Read moreHadn't been here in many years (used to go to Great American Skate back in the day) after skating we'd either go to The Olympia Diner or Makris. When we walked in that distinctive odor that only Makris has brought back memories. We were told to seat ourselves anywhere. Once seated (3 of us) the server brought us menus (2) I guess kids don't get to look at the menus. We ordered a tuna melt with fries, a cheeseburger with fries, and fish & chips. Also 1 soda. The food was basic diner food, nothing outstanding. Fish and chips was just that, fish and chips with a little piece of lemon and tartar sauce and NO coleslaw. 3 perfectly formed pieces of frozen/fried mystery fish that tasted ok but.... every meal just seemed to be lacking "something" all in all it was a decent lunch but, definitely not worth the $45 we paid. I'm thinking that the prices are reflecting the lack of people in there at noon on a workday on the...
