So I've been eating Chinese food in the Chicagoland area for a long long time and I have to say, while this isn't a bad place, it's certainly not as amazing as some of the reviews that I've read. I checked this place out recently as we moved into the area and let me start by saying the folks there are definitely some of the most friendly I've seen. Smiling, waving from the kitchen and very appreciative of the business. Secondly the speed at which the food was prepared (10 minutes for a takeout order) was perfect, but there are many others that have acheived this in the Chinese Takeout scene.
My one real issue was with the food itself, which I would consider the most important feature. It wasn't bad food. It didn't make me sick or anything, but it wasn't all that great. My wife, whose family is Asian and whose mother cooked certain things with MSG, said that it tasted like they used a lot of MSG in their cooking. Now I'm not one to complain about MSG as an ingrediant, but two things. First it's a crutch if your food isn't that good on it's own. It's supposed to "enhance" flavor, but to be honest, there wasn't enough strong flavor to enhance. Second, it leaves a bit of a fake taste which, in my opinion, may have even overpowered the natural flavors. We tried a few things and all of them were fine, just nothing to write home about and certainly nothing worth driving 4 minutes for when there are others that I'd rate a bit better (4 stars)...
Read moreI ordered food from here today around 4pm for walk-in carry out. Small Mongolian beef with no green onions. They hit the mark on the no green onions
Here is the catch. This Mongolian beef has less than 2.8 oz of beef in the container. (Yes I weighed it out on a scale) Maybe 5-6 tiny pieces at most, the rest of the container is all filler of onion, and crunchy fried rice noodles. Could you imagine if kept the green onions in the order, I might of have gotten less beef!!
I honestly feel very very very ripped off.
PLEASE SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE ON FOOD.
I'm usually not one to leave a review but this, is bad and I needed to make sure future customers and current customers understand this, so maybe the establishment will change their ways and stop filling their food with fillers. I asked for Mongolian "BEEF". not Mongolian "WHITE ONIONS & CRISPY...
Read moreI really enjoy coming to this place every now and then. I really enjoy the shrimp dishes. Like the others have said the portions are big and low priced. I would really recommend shrimp lo mein, fried rice, vegetables and broccoli. Now that is winter, I would recommend Hot and sour soup. Inside there is tofu, egg, threads of chewy bamboo, golden mushrooms and some kind of salty vegetable. As you can see by the name it is spicy but not to overwhelming. I also enjoy it on sick days, it helps clear up the throats :). i also had tried their egg rolls recently. Unlike other restaurants, the egg rolls are more crispy because the wrapping is very thin. To get eggs rolls at a good price you can get the lunch combination (which you get to pick a dish and it comes with rice and...
