All of these great reviews. I really hope we were just a fluke. In their defense, we walked in on a whim on a Saturday evening with our two well-behaved children (both under 10) to celebrate a recent career achievement in the family. We realized we were all wearing light blue, so we thought what better time to go be Greek for the night, lol.
They had a bunch of reservations to arrive inside just after we arrived, so they only had room outside. Luckily the mid-August weather was perfect and the sun was getting low in the sky.
What we didn’t know at that time was that the kitchen was ill-prepared for the onslaught of reservations, and it seemed the wait staff was short-handed. Everything took entirely too long and with two hungry young kids, the natives were getting restless.
We were seated at one of the far outside tables, seemed perhaps we were easy to forget. They brought us two place settings. Apparently children don’t eat? The appetizer and loaf of bread went quickly. When the mussels arrived we kindly asked for more bread, that came over 20 minutes later. There seemed to be some lack of cooperation between the wait staff, the bussers, and the servers.
My son’s dish arrived as the same time as my salad and my dish. 10 minutes later, the waitress came to check on us, when we broke the news my wife’s dish had not come and we still were waiting on the bread. I was sharing my salad and some of my pasta with my wife while she waited.
Finally her dish came, and things seemed to be coming together.
We selected the mussels as the appetizer which turned out perfect. Perfectly done and served in a creamy tomato based sauce that would have been amazing to dip the bread in if we had any after asking for it 20 minutes ago.
The romaine Greek salad with chicken souvlaki was delicious. A good balance of all the ingredients. The dressing was perfect, not overbearing like many Greek dressings that overdo it on the mustard and vinegar. For my main dish I had the lobster pasta which was on the chef’s special menu. It was amazing, perfected by the tomoato sauce and the al dente spaghetti.
My wife had the Mousaka, which she didn’t seem all that excited about. I didn’t try any, and I don’t think our children did either.
My original review mentioned my wife getting sick, and the restaurant replied that it takes longer to get sick from something than 4-5 hours. Although the window was close, they make a good point, and I removed that part of my review. I do not want to damage anyone’s reputation and am removing this because at the end of the day there is no proof.
With all the amazing choices in the Dupage area, it’s going to be extremely hard to return to...
Read moreWe had heard great things about this restaurant and we love Greek food. We've been to many amazing spots in the city and suburbs with our family. The setting at Molos is pretty and felt very much like a Greek Taverna. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying it. We didn't love that we sat 3 feet away from a pile of everyone else's dirty dishes as they cleared tables and placed them into these basins on the cart. It's pretty off putting. My husband asked him if he'd mind moving it but he didn't speak English and didn't understand so we let it be. We ordered the Horiataki salad, family size, and it was substantially smaller than other Greek spots we'd been to. The kitchen person dropped it off and we had to wait several minutes for plates and silverware. We also had to ask for bread as we never received it and others were getting it right when they sat down. The glass of Greek red wine we ordered was $10 and the pour was very small. We ordered two meals for our kids. Chicken tenders were very good and big portion. Meatballs were nothing special...2 small ones on a plate with no sauce and fries. My daughter didn't like them and we thought they'd come with the same sauce you get with Keftedes. They were plain and lacked flavor. We ordered the gyro trio which was delicious and stood out as the highlight of the meal. My husband had ordered the trio with feta fries and it came with plain fries. We didn't bother asking to change it because service was slow. The tab reflected plain fries even though we ordered them so at least we didn't pay for feta we didn't receive. The salmon entree came on skewers and was very fishy to smell and taste. We didn't like it at all only finishing one skewer since we were very hungry but I felt sick all night from the salmon. Total with tip was $100 for two kids meals, a salad, two entrees, 3 cans of soda and one small glass of wine. While the setting and the people at Molos were very nice, we likely...
Read moreGreat Greek restaurant in Wheaton. There's another Greek restaurant in downtown Wheaton (don't go there, go here instead). Our server was Sam, he was fantastic - friendly, charismatic, and knew the menu well.
We tried the spicy feta spread, skordalia, and red pepper hummus. Great flavoring to the spicy feta and hummus spread - the skordalia was a bit more potato than garlic forward in flavor, was like spreading mashed potato on bread. After it sat for a few minutes it got clumpy and hard to spread. Order extra pita! It's only $2 at the time of this review and worth it to have extra.
We ordered the "blue" drink and the spritz. The blue drink tastes like licorice, if that's your thing, you'll love it. The spritz was refreshing. They have a nice drink menu.
For our meals, we ordered the Avgolemeno soup and romaine Greek salad to start and then got the gyro sampler with Greek fries and the chicken a la feta. This was some of the best food we've had in Wheaton. Amazing flavor, attention to detail, and great portion sizes. The flavor profile of the chicken dish was elevated, it was perfect! The gyro meat was flavorful and tender. The pork tasted and had a texture of bacon which was phenomenal in flavor.
Pricing is reasonable for the service and food quality. We spent $110 for two of us.
Ambiance is bright and comforting. They share space with The Hen House so it does have a more breakfast bistro vibe vs dinner but we enjoyed the brightness. They do offer outdoor seating as well. Inside it's a mix of high top and low top with wood chairs.
Parking is either out front in angled parking or in the back in the lot for the college avenue train station. Parking in the lot is free after 3, and all day on weekends.
