Oh how the mighty have fallen...
This was unfortunately the last time I will be here. I have never had an experience at a breakfast place that has legitimately made me want to cry before. But this was it.
I had been looking forward to coming here since I was going to make the trip back home for the weekend and didn't mind waiting the 45 minutes to get seated. However, things started turning south when I ordered the Lemon Blueberry Pancakes which had an inaccurate description on the menu. Like, don't get me wrong I do not mind if the pancakes are plain buttermilk pancakes, but if the description says lemon infused batter, I think that it is not unreasonable to expect lemon infused batter. I had been contemplating between two pancake types, so if I'm sold on that one piece and I don't get it it is a very big let down. But what's more, when I mentioned this to the server he had the worst attitude. He told me "no those are correct... That's how they come". telling me that the order was what was on the menu, when it was not. And when he brought the manager over, the manager than agreed with me saying that they had to change it due to prior complaints. Which is fine, but your menu should reflect the changes that you make to your food items. So in fact I was not wrong and the server was the one that was extremely defensive and rude when I mentioned the discrepancies. Anyway i then asked if I could change my order to the plain pumpkin pancakes which the manager happily agreed. Then the server came again and put the wrong pancakes in front of me again, giving me instead of a side order of the fall harvest pancakes, and he tried to skirt away very quickly but noticed my very quick reaction when I put my hands on my head and said oh my God. When I did that he stopped in his tracks looked at me and said hard/softly in Spanish "Y ahora que"... Which translates to "and what now?" I'm not sure if he knew that I spoke Spanish or that he said it loud enough that I could hear him, but that was just flat out hostile. I told him again these are not what I ordered at all, and I ordered a full not it a a side. So he aggressively took the Pancakes from me again visibly angry. My sister then watched him put the plate at the table right next to us, because he in fact brought the wrong pancakes to the wrong person again. There was no apology or anything. When my pancakes finally came a different server came and drop them off.
In terms of the food quality, Today it was flat out mediocre. The last time we came we have been so astounded by how good the food was, which is why we are so excited to come back. But my pancakes well good they were a bit overdone, my sister's skillet was OK, she said she had had better. But when it came to the crepes... My sister ordered the Nutella crêpes, And realize that only one of them was filled, while the rest was just a rolled up piece of crêpe. She actually unfolded the entire thing looking for the filling, only to realize that it was empty. From all of my past reviews most of you know that I am not a hard person to serve. I am a very friendly and I like making conversation with the people that are serving us, because dining is an experience it's not just about the food. By the end of it I just decided that I do not want to come here ever again. The amount of hostility and the fact that they made my sister's face turned red and made me want to tear up at the way that they treated us is not acceptable for a place that is in the business of customer service. To all my fellow elite reviewer's, and people who follow my reviews in general please do not go here. I will personally recommend it another place in the area that is a lot better. Just send me that message and I will...
Read moreWant to start by saying I'm all about supporting small businesses seeing that my husband and I are small business owners. I'll also want to share that I've worked in the food service industry.
We were sat immediately upon arrival by the friendly hostess. She was the only staff member with good customer service skills. Our waitress Ellie was awful; a bad listener, unfriendly, & provided terrible customer service. Firstly, it's polite to start by asking the women at the table first what they'd like to have. It's proper etiquette and courteous. That was just the start of poor service. She didn't listen very well. Not only did we have to repeat my dad's request for coffee, but then the food was delivered at off times. Mine and my daughter's came out first, then my husband and parents' dishes came out 5+ mins later. The communication between the staff or their procedure for getting food delivered to the right person at the table were not good. The food was pretty good, but nothing special. I had the avocado toast, my hubby had a skillet, our daughter had the kids French toast, my dad had an egg white omelette and my mom had two eggs, bacon & potatoes that were layered in a ton of cheese; so much cheese that it seemed to be cheese with some potatoes instead of potatoes with cheese.
At the end of our meal, my father told the waitress that he wanted the check. She put the check in front of my husband causing my father to have to reach over to grab it as he had wanted. It took her an excessive amount of time to get back to the table to pick up the check. She reached across the table to get the check from my father. The polite thing to do is to walk over to the patron paying on his/her side and collect the bill. My father tried sharing that bit of wisdom with the girl. When he did, she rudely responded, "I know what I'm doing. I've been doing this awhile." very arrogant of her. If you are in the service industry, NEVER talk sassy/rude like that to a customer, especially when someone is trying to give you advice which will in turn help you get better tips. Needless to say, she did not receive a good tip.
Very disappointed. We won't be back to this place because of the poor service. Also, my advice to the owners, fire her. She reflects terribly upon your business. You deserve better and so do...
Read moreFinally! A chance to sit down and check out the Hen House after passing by numerous times over the summer. Was a little underwhelmed by experience. Ushered all the way to the back of the restaurant to a very small table sandwiched between a booth and a large table..there was not much room. There were numerous seats available in their various rooms..But hey! We had a window view. The menu is extensive, everything sounds amaz. After browsing their menu over the summer, it made it a stop on our bucket list for the year. Its very difficult to find a restaurant that has numerous gf and organic options in our area. I was in an accident last spring and have a very limited diet while my body continues to heal. Which means i cannot eat eggs unfortantely. I ordered the yam yam without them as it sounded fantastic on its own. My husband ordered an omlet with gouda and jalipenios. I asked if i could sub the eggs for fruit. Our waitress explained that she could ask but there may be an additional charge. Perhaps i misread the description for the skillets..it seemed like fruit or potatoes were the choice of sides rather then toast or pancakes..both of which i cannot eat unfortantely. I was a little stumped why there would be a charge..but ultimately its not the waitstaffs decision. I was ok with that. After several minutes, we got our food. My husband had been served his coffee right away. I never got my psl. Someone sat down in the booth behind me, our waitress helped her out twice without looking at us or checking to see if we were doing ok. It seemed as if they knew each other. Food was good. The yam yam was tasty and my hubby enjoyed his omlet. But also mentioned that it wasnt something that he would order again. Would have been nice to have our waters refilled. Or a warm up on his coffee as we were both now drinking it. We ate our meals dry..having no drinks. I finally got my psl to go after reminding our waitress when she checked on us about 20 mins or so later after our food arrived...almost $7 for a 12oz cup that was not even filled. Mixed feelings about returning. Would hate to come back only to be seated again where the staff forgets about you. Was almost ready to leave my leftovers just so we could finally leave. Can see the top fill line on...
