Tried Chinese Munch In based on the reviews and some feedback from friends in the area. I have been on the hunt for the elusive delicious Hong Kong style egg roll made with peanut butter. Since places like 7 Treasures, Kow Kow, and Mee Mah have closed and places like Wing Wah have changed hands and therefore, recipes, it's been harder to find an egg roll filled with ingredients (not mostly cabbage) and that touch of peanut butter to make the taste unique. Unfortunately, this wasn't a place that lived up to the reviews for me.
Service was friendly and welcoming. The family owned restaurant has dine in and the inside was warm and inviting, kinda making me think of a 1980's/1990's Chinese-American restaurant- someplace I grew up eating and working at. A place a take out order on Friday and was given the 15 minute window to pick up.
We ordered egg rolls, shrimp fried rice, and beef and vegetable chow fun. I was super excited to try this hoping it would be our next go-to take out place. Unfortunately, our meal fell short. The fried rice and chow fun were salty. When I opened the rice and chow fun containers and both were mostly dark in color, I knew it would be salty. Tasting it confirmed my suspicion. Aside from the salty, there was a decent amount of shrimp and beef in the order which we appreciated. The egg rolls kind of disappointed- they were filled with mostly cabbage and minimal pork and shrimp. The wrapper was on the chewier side, still crispy, but thicker chewy.
Overall, it was just an OK meal. Nothing I'd go out of the way to order and not necessarily a place to fill my cravings for Chinese American food. Maybe my expectations are high having grown up eating at the Americanized Chinese restaurants or having worked at a couple for over a decade?
I wouldn't discourage you from trying this family owned restaurant, but if you're looking for egg rolls or Chinese food based on some of the previously mentioned restaurants, Chinese Munch In is...
Read moreThe food at this place is very good but it left a single star for one reason. On Saturday afternoon my family and I went to eat there. We entered through the back of the restaurant and saw a man there in the back for His clothing, we thought he was a homeless man because his clothes were very dirty, his shirt and pants were too dirty and we saw that he was smoking and the smell he gave off was marijuana. Well, my family and I paid no attention to it, thinking that he was a homeless man. We entered the local and minutes later Buala was the same guy that my family and I had seen before smoking marijuana and all dirty he started serving food I think his name is Juan why did they call him several times for food orders and to make matters worse he was treating him very badly to a boy who I think is learning in the restaurant because it is the first time that I see him there working with them personally. I would not have that type of people in my business working for me. The owners there are very kind and the girl whose name is Erika Also, but the man named Juan didn't make me very angry seeing how he treated that boy badly and also seeing him smoke marijuana. The owners should pay more attention to the type of employees, oh, because people like that leave a lot...
Read moreReview is for carry out I ordered online through their website during lunch time( 12:30) and I felt it was faster than calling. Maybe it relays straight to the cooks idk but it was faster than the other times that I've called. There's a status on your order and once its green it's ready I thought maybe it wasn't busy. I go to pick my order up and it was clearly busy with other take out orders waiting as well. Good take out service
I ordered the lunch special of sweet and sour chicken, comes with fried rice and an egg roll. I also ordered their crab Rangoon and I found it all to be good. The lunch specialnis like 15 with the tax but varies on what you order. Didn't eat the egg roll I was too full to eat anything else, but my brother liked it. Crab ragoon are good but pricey for 9-10 bucks with taxes. Maybe split the cost with someone. Drinks are canned if you choose to get one for take out. Overall i enjoyed the chicken, the rice and the rangoons. Sauce was great and they give you extra on the side which you can save for other meals, i reccomend to drizzle it on...
