It was my second time coming here, but the first time eating real food instead of pie.
I ordered chicken fried steak, French fries, and broccoli.
The broccoli was delicious and fresh, the French fries are made in a way that I rank them in my top 10 fried spuds. The very best French fry I've ever had, was in Marble Falls though 😉. The chicken fried steak was yummy, but I'd give it a 3/5. Solidly good. Better than that famous cafe in Stephenville, but I've had some close contenders in Waco that are just as good or slightly better. For my meal, I'd say it scratches that cafe Americana itch, and I'm happy to support this business in the future.
Unlike myself, my companion did not enjoy her meal that much. She's more picky than I am (as I will eat just about anything). She ordered the chicken tenders, green beans with bacon, and mashed potatoes.
The chicken tenders were great. No complaints. They were also big! The sides were less impressive, though. The green beans had no texture. They were too soft and had a bit of a greasy after taste. I like veggies, and I like them to keep their texture, so that was disappointing to me. The mashed potatoes tasted just fine, but if I had to critique, I would want them to be a bit creamier/softer.
In summary: great little restaurant. Don't let my minor criticisms scare you off from eating here, because I'm the one who ate the dishes, and I still plan on coming back. The food was decent in some areas and down right tasty in other areas. The decor was nice, and I love supporting small town eateries and buying local/American whenever I can. The prices were great, too 5/5 in affordability.
I'll be back to try your other menu items...
Read moreUsually this place is good, went and we had no service whatsoever. We sat for 25 ish mins with no order taken when the lady brought the appetizer she said this y’all’s we replied yes and threw it on the table and walked off. We got cheese curds with no ranch or sauce and she didn’t even ask if we needed anything else so we had to wait till like 10mins, we eventually got someone to grab us some ranch. Then we had no refills on drinks till we were about to leave with the ticket. Weren’t even sure who to ask for stuff since we didn’t have a server. Received our food and again didn’t ask if we needed anything just left real quick so we had no sauce with the meals ate them dry since No one came by after we got our food. I had to stop and ask someone for a Togo drink and etc. I like going to restaurants for the environment and to enjoy it. I could not enjoy this visit. I myself am a server and know this wasn’t good service. Seems like they only really cared to give service to the larger parties near us. Felt like whoever was supposed to serve us didn’t care for us I guess. Only one lady was nice and took our order after seeing us waiting. wish we could’ve just enjoyed...
Read moreGood Food at a fair price. I was impressed with their iced tea, large menu, in house made pie selection and that they serve breakfast all day. I wouldn’t recommend their breakfast sausage. The biscuits aren’t the best that I’ve had but I do believe they make them in house. You have to ask for jelly and they will bring you a nice assortment of packets. I went twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner. It would be nice if more of their food was made from scratch, especially the mashed potatoes. I don’t think any of their potatoes are made in house. A lot of their menu is frozen for deep frying. The vegetables are canned except for broccoli if you can get it but they do doctor them up. Service was good although I didn’t get my broccoli until after I was finished eating so I took it home with my other leftovers. A basket of bread comes with your dinner. Warm rolls and Texas shaped corn bread. Real Butter on the table in little packets. Ask for honey and they will bring you those packets as well. I actually liked the honey. I’m giving 4 stars instead of 3 because for a small town, it’s a nice restaurant with a varied menu and the people were friendly. Unique...
