Winchester Kitchen & Bar — Restaurant in Winchester

This rating comes down to the food and the experience. First, the food. It was really good. Everybody at our table enjoyed it, including my kids. The only thing we didn't like were the curly fries which came out as a brick. But other than that, no complaints about the food.

The experience, however, was an issue. This place is a bar in the front, and a restaurant in the back. Because we had kids, we had to sit in the back which was fine. However, when walking through the bar my young kids got to see a naked woman poster up on the wall. I definately didn't want them to see that. Once we were sitting we got to enjoy the owner's 2 year-old son running around and causing problems. First, he would bang on the piano. Then he went to another table and poured salt all over the place. Apparantly he was above the "no one under 21 in the bar" rule because he would go into the bar and cause problems too. It was really unprofessional and I'm pretty sure illegal. Ever heard of a baby sitter? Lastly, they had a mangy dog running around eating crumbs off the floor. I'm pretty sure this is against the health code.

It took about 45 minutes to get our burgers which seemed a long time especially with that little kid running around causing problems. Our waitress, Terry, was awesome but there is definately a problem with the kitchen. Prices were fair. I don't think I will go back because of the problems mentioned above. Home style food, made fresh to order, in a cozy bar/restaurant, in the woods! This place was welcoming from the moment I walked through the door. Good beer selection on tap, with two sizes available (bottles also available). Their burgers are delicious, but this last visit, I tried the chicken fried steak and loved it. The mashed potatoes are incredible; creamy and yet still have some pieces to give texture. Steak was cooked perfectly and tender. The gravy over both the potatoes and steak was fresh and flavorful. Finally! A place that is done right. Looks like what is missing in the small personal disappearing bars of yesteryears. So far, great food everytime, super prices, great bar, fantastic staff. NO I don't own this place nor does anyone I am related to own anymore than what our last tab was, which wasn't bad for what we enjoyed.
