Sugar & Spice Bake Shoppe — Restaurant in Windham

We wound up at this bakery by chance. I had drove past its windows several times on a Saturday and finally stopped in to get my treats. Me and my son are from a small city in upstate NY and we were greeted by an owner who loves his business and making people mouths happy. The young lady behind the counter was wonderful to chat with and we shared some stories. And that persona followed through into the items that we purchased to take back to our motel room and enjoy. The Tiramisu was the best I have ever been fortunate enough to taste...it literally made every taste bud in my mouth pop up and savor every bite. My son who is 12 had the Ricotta Cannoli that he said, "mom this is so good I cant talk right now". I had planned to go back and purchase more to take home but we left earlier than planned to get ahead of the holiday traffic. I can honestly say I would travel the 4.5 hours with a cooler to bring some back home to my friends and family. You can not miss out on getting your favorites here...we also had the Creme Puff and I believe it was the chocolate mousse cheescake ! Amazing, delicious , and exquisite taste and customer service. I placed an order for 75 assorted danishes, muffins, and cannoli for an office event I was hosting for a client in Boston. I called the day before the event to have everything ready by 9 am the following day. When I arrived at 9, everything was nicely boxed, labeled and ready to go. I have to say, driving from Salem to Boston with that wonderful aroma in the car made it difficult not to sneak a pastry out and eat it on the way. Throughout the 4 hour event, all I could hear from my clients was praise for how great these pastries were. Everybody kept asking me where I got everything. I managed to get my hands on one of the cannoli before they were gone, and WOW, I'd place that cannoli in the top 2 that I've ever had (yes, I've had more than 2... my wife is Italian and my stepmother was Italian... trust me, I've had enough cannoli that I should probably weigh a couple hundred pounds more than I do). I will absolutely be using this bakery for my future...

The atmosphere is cold, both literally and figuratively.

The staff were aloof. Prices are not openly listed (and expensive). The only clear pricing is the notice that customers must pay more for items with chocolate because the store can no longer “eat the cost”.

The manager (man sitting at table with papers speaking with confidence?) insisted on mansplaining how search engines work & refused to listen to any women speaking to him. He appeared more interested in clarifying his inane, uneducated position than addressing the actual issue.

I put three stars for food because honestly I don’t know how it tastes. I was so angry from the poor treatment from staff, I threw out the food I bought without trying it.

The bakery is NOT gluten-free friendly! It does have some macarons and cheesecake options - which are gluten-free by default - but that’s it. They show no interest or consideration for food...
