Today was a terrible day and I have Tonys pizza and Willimantic police department to thank for it. I in my entire life have NEVER EVER been treated with such disrespect prejudice embarrassment and disregard. I am not a native of Willimantic, CT and after today I never will. I am currently displaced in an emergency shelter and a friend of mine in another city offered to buy me and my 12 year old son lunch. She placed an internet order 1 large steak and cheese small amount of well done onions extra mayonnaise toasted no other veggies 1 large cheeseburger grinder lettuce, tomato and pickle after toasted extra mayonnaise. small pepperoni pizza and chicken fingers 2 sodas. Realizing someone else ordered this for me I immediately called them to reitterate THE specifics. THE ONLY THING EDIBLE WAS THE SODA. MY DOG DIDN'T EVEN LIKE THE CHICKEN FINGERS. 1st I attempted to just go down there and simply ask them to put cheese onions and mayo on my sons steak and CHEESE but my car needed a jump so I called and was given a run down of how they make their grinders. After a long useless dispute none of which led to replacement or refund only threats to involve the police. I attempted to finally open my cheeseburger grinder. When I tell you it was inedible it had looked like someone chewed it up and spit it out soggy bread soggy lettuce and tomato. and harder than hell MEAT. With a slice of cheese. SO because of the police threats I called them myself and they said that it was a civil matter and that they couldn't get involved. BUT the dispatcher whose name and badge number I had gotten advised me to go down there and show them and they would probably replace it for you. So me, my son and my dog went down there and I asked simply for the manager. I again was threatened to get out or he was calling the police I simply wanted what I asked for or for my very great friend to get a refund JUST FOR THE GRINDERS so she didn't waste her money. He called the police I was kicked out and 5 police cruisers came to give me a 103.00 ticket for creating a public disturbance. Just to walk back and miss dinner. Basically we didn't eat today. I am stop appalled for the remaining time in this shelter I will not leave. I DON'T FEEL SAFE AND I'M TOTALLY EMBARRASSED. My son feels the same and confused wondering why they didn't just make the GRINDERS over. There are so many answers but all I can say is shame on you and shame on...
Read moreGreat, homey feeling place. Outdated atmosphere but there is a strong charm to thay, like I've gone back to the 1990's. If I put my phone away, on a quiet night, it can really bring in that nostalgic feeling. The dreary lighting, in this place is actually very charming, in my opinion. It's very comfortable and welcoming. Could do with some new carpeting and upholstery, though, just to make it fresher looking. Employees are generally friendly, and if not then at least basically courteous. I've never gotten rude service. Wait times can rack up, sometimes, but that's due to high customer volume. They are always fully staffed. Could do with formal customer service training employees but what they lack in that, they make up for with obviously comfortable and happy staff (if you treat your workers well, they'll do their job well, and in this place it seems to be the case). Their delivery drivers are usually punctual, so long as the food is made on time (varies depending on how busy they are). The driver's are decent, they're never rude. Can't complain. The food is very good tasting and they have a solid selection. They're also flexible with options. I've never gotten sick from their food, in over 15 years. Only one gripe with the food - the pizza dough is often very wet, to the point that the bottom falls apart. This is due to multiple reasons: • Wet toppings: remove excess moisture and water from your toppings before putting them on the pizza. You can do this by straining the wet ingredients, as well as by pre-cooking some of the ingredients, especially things like meats, which will leak juices into the crust as it cooks, preventing it from crimping properly. • Overly wet dough: try lowering the water ratio in your dough mixture. This is a common reason for wet pizza crusts. • Too much sauce: try using less sauce on your pizzas. I love the pizza sauce here but it is definitely a contributing factor for soggy undercrust. That being said, going into the place, expect to be eating your pizza with a fork and knife. If you're okay with soggy crust pies, then you'll love this place. I don't mind soggy crust pies, so I have very few problems with it. Thanks, Tony's, for...
Read moreI’ve ordered from this place for almost 20 years. I ordered a delivery for two steak grinders, one with American cheese, onions, peppers and mustard, another with extra American cheese, onions, and peppers. Food was delivered with neither grinder being labeled so I had to open to identify them. Once open I saw one grinder with no cheese, onions and peppers but no mustard and the other had provolone cheese. I’m not one to complain about orders but we order quite frequently from them but 9/10 times the order is wrong. So I decided to call the restaurant and explained my frustrations with them. I spoke to six different people playing hot telephone. I made my complaints and requested that the one with mustard be remade but the other to be substituted by an order of potato skins which is much less than the cost of a large Steak and Cheese grinders I was told by all employees and owner that a replacement is not something they do and I used every other restaurant in the state as an example of that yes you can replace an item if you don’t like it. I only took one bite and it was terrible regardless of it having the wrong kind of cheese. Because I told the owner that 90% of the time I order from them it’s wrong she blatantly told me to not order from Tony’s again. The last person I spoke to told me as soon as she got on the phone that she was going to match my energy because I was rude…I’m rude because I complained about an order that was very wrong, asked to speak with a manager and was either put on hold or hung up on. I spoke to SIX people with listening skill issues; I was told to give my order to each of them over the phone and they ALL got it totally wrong but it’s the customers fault according to the owner. I’m rude for wanting the order to be right for once, six people couldn’t get the replacement order which was the original order right, was told that as a customer I’m not entitled to ask for them to remake the order or ask for a replacement of much less value. I’m going to take the owner’s advice and no longer order from them. They’re definitely not the same restaurant of 60 years that they reiterated over the phone multiple times, and quite frankly...
