My husband and I just left harpoon brewery for lunch. We have been fans of and have visited multiple times over the years and have always had a great experience, but this time was the complete opposite and we were so disappointed. It started off trying to get a patio seat to eat outside with our dog, but were unable to. The hostess seemed overwhelmed and under trained. My husband went to order off the take out menu that had only 8 items available and when he asked if we could order off the regular menu, since we were only going to eat outside, the bartenders response was basically “what you see is what you get”. No welcoming attitudes from anyone so far. We ordered beer and food and I ordered gluten free bread for my vermonter sandwich that was supposed to come with fries. It came out within quoted 20 minutes where I then waited over 10 minutes at the counter to order another beer and had to ask for someone to come over to close out my tab. My sad excuse for a sandwich barely had any turkey and came with a bag of chips, even though the menu said it came with fries. I went in to get my fries I ordered and the manager said they gave me chips because the kitchen took it upon themselves to not give me fries because the fries have gluten in them even though I said it was a preference getting gluten free bread instead of an allergy. The manager went to the kitchen and got the sandwich re-made with fries and I was so frustrated with my experience that I offered him some feedback. He said to me that “ my experience today was the luck of the draw, and even though I usually have a good experience, today wasn’t my day”. He comped me the sandwich, but that did not make up for the poor experience I had during my visit. My beer was warm by the time I got back out to my table, and my husband‘s food was cold. I was so surprised by the lack of professionalism and customer service offered to us during our visit. It will be a hard sell for me to...
Read moreDuring our stay in Vermont in the summer, we visited Harpoon Brewery for some beer tasting. We had a reservation, which was required at that time, no matter if it was during peak or off-peak hours. We were greeted warmly, and taken to our seat right away.
We could see the brewery behind the store, and it would have been really cool to get a tour of the place. But, due to the pandemic, they were not offering tour at that time.
They offer flight of beer here, and you get to choose four different kinds of beer. They come in 6 oz glasses, plased on the tray in a shape of harpoon.
Since it is not recommend to consume alcohol in empty stomach, and we were there for lunch anyways, we ordered some hearty dishes. I went with a BYO Burger that comes with chips, but substituted Fries for another $2. It was a good burger, not great, but good.
My hubby went with Texas-Style Brisket Sandwich. He wasn’t feeling the side of chips either, so, without really reading the menu, he substituted with coleslaw. But it already comes with a side of coleslaw, so he got double the coleslaw! LOL. The brisket was dry… Not a good sandwich… Stick with snacks and beer at a brewery…
The beers, on the other hands, were GREAT! We enjoyed all the ones we tasted. And we even added two more tasting, since you can order 6 oz size individually. We decided to buy a pack of most unique one, Dragon Weisse home with us. The server told us that we can put in an order with him, so that we don’t have to go to the store side and pay separately. We did just that, and he brought us the 4-pack to our table. Nice service!
Our server was very friendly and attentive, efficient service. We were well taken care of. It was a fun visit, and we enjoyed all the beer we tried. Again, not the best food, but hey, they are brewery, focused on...
Read moreI have waited for a year and half or so to write this review and thought long and hard about what my girlfriend and I experienced one Sunday afternoon in Windsor. We had been be coming to the Harpoon in Windsor for about 10 years and thought of the employees as freinds and family. We gave positive when deserved promoting the Harpoon to firends, family and total strangers and sugestive corrective criticism in hopes things would improve. We had reserved the same table , a week in advance , every Sunday afternoon for 6 months to come see Brooks Hubbard. We walked in that Sunday afternoon in March and were told by Hosttess Abby that we couldn't have the table we had reserved. I asked why not and she said they gave it to another party that wanted it. Abby and server Victoia said it would be ok while giggling. I said it wasn't and I explained why we had reserved that table and asked to speak to who ever made the decision not to honor our reservation. We decided to take another table that was offered to us. We were sitting there when Nick Emanuel , who we thought of as a friend and family came to the table ,not make eye contact or anything shook his finger between Lori and my faces . He angryly shouted you have 2 options behave your selves or leave and offer no explantion to why our reservation wasn't honered. It beacame quite clear to us that after 10 years and spending 10 to 15 thounsand DOLLARS a year we we're not welcome or our business appreciated . Not one person in management ever reaced out to us to se what happened. WE miss our Thusday nights with Jason and all lthe friends we made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most all the locals will say the same, it's not for the food or the beer beacause it not that great, but Jason they go for on Thursdays and some wish there was...
