We were excited to see a new restaurant open in our area when they first opened. Our first experience was incredibly negative and we waited a long time before going back. Our first experience we waited for 30 mins to be sat they sat us with a young child around 10 months. They did not have any available high chairs and asked us if the child could just sit on a chair. It took them 30 mins to tell us this. We decided to give them a second chance several months later. We had several really positive experiences BUT ONLY DINING IN! Our delivery/carry out experiences have all been bad.
First, I want to comment on dining in. The service is ok. There are a few (or were) good servers there. Some clearly hate their job. They aren't overly friendly, they don't really recommend anything or really care that you are there. It seems most are there because that is the only job they could find at that time. The food is good nothing spectacular but it's good. Something's are overcooked, some are under seasoned. To say this is an Italian restaurant would be almost laughable. It isn't authentic Italian if that is what they are aiming for. If you want authentic, try Made in Italy in Glen Ellyn. Best Italian food hands down.
The carryout service, to place an order through the website is easy but they don't have kids food listed. Which is a problem. They do not allow for certain customization either. Sometimes we prefer to call. EVERYTIME we call the person that takes the order is incompetent. They always mess the order up. Every carryout order we have ordered has had something wrong! EVERY SINGLE TIME. Even when placed through the site. Examples: ordered a salad with chicken, croutons, no tomatoes. Received a salad no chicken, no croutons with tomatoes we paid $3-4 extra for the things we did NOT receive. Ordered a pasta with shrimp, mushrooms, changed the sauce received it with no mushrooms. It was a pasta that was originally $16 that modified to $21. Ordered a sandwich that had toasted bread the bread was burnt. Called in an order, ordered fried ravioli appetizer instead received a cheese ravioli dinner. Ordered chicken tenders they were so over cooked they were rocks.
The delivery service takes way to long. It is usually over 1 1/2 hour during dinner time. The staff that answers the phone is really incompetent and not trained well. Last time we called to see if our order was ready for pick up and she had no clue. The tracker had finished but it was 30 mins earlier than our estimated pick up time. She told us it would be ready in an hour. That would be 2 hours after we placed our order. We headed over 10 mins later to find our food cold and of course incorrect as usual. That was our last trip to Macianos. We won't be dining there again, so many failed attempts over the last few years since they opened. We have been incredibly patient. They haven't improved. It's sad we really wanted this to work...
Read moreI have nothing bad to say about the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff nor the atmosphere that was clearly carefully curated for a simple cliché Italian kitchen scene. It is in fact this simple and cozy atmosphere that reeled me in to check this spot out. Of course, the reviews were also confirming of my desire to come here.
When it finally came down to eating, the quality of the food was so egregiously cheap and low effort that the luster this place had built up until this point had been effectively destroyed and outweighed by the food itself.
The food I had while dining in:
Hawaiian Luau: 3/10 Thin Crust: 2/10 It had no crunch due to the toppings going over the edges of the pizza for the most part. This pizza had way too much of all of the toppings which effectively made it soggy. Regardless, the crust itself was flavorless and could only compete against Tombstone pizza. Sauce: 5/10 Nothing special or terrible about the sauce. Sauce is the second most important ingredient on pizza unfortunately. Toppings: 2/10 Pineapples were canned, tomatoes were wet and not pre-cooked, Canadian bacon was as cheap as money can buy. Cheese: 4/10 Cheese was sub-par in quality and there was way too much of it on the pizza.
Angel Hair Pomodoro: 4/10 Pasta: 6/10 Pasta was well cooked, but nothing special about noodle quality. Sauce: 2/10 The freshness of the tomatoes was present and you can tell they have felt some heat on the pan with a mild roasted flavor, but that is about it. I could not taste anything else and the dish was overall bland and under salted.
I have never felt this deceived by a restaurant before and I will never come...
Read morePlease note: This review is for takeout orders only.
Out of our last five takeout orders from this restaurant, four have been incorrect. I started keeping track after the first mistake.
On that initial order, unfortunately I didn't check the closed bag I was handed before leaving. I arrived home to find a tiramisu was missing. When I called, I received an apology and was told they had several new staff in training. However, no credit or replacement for the missing item was offered.
Our next order was correct.
The third order was picked up by my daughter. When she got home, we discovered one of the entrees was wrong. It was a similar dish that we had ordered before and was the same price, so I didn't contact the restaurant.
When I picked up the fourth order, I checked the bag before leaving and noticed the garlic bread for two of our entrees was missing. The staff provided it when I pointed it out. While waiting, I saw another customer discover a missing salad from their order as well.
Last night's order was the final straw. My daughter picked it up and saw that it contained her salad and my wife's and my two chicken entrees with their accompanying garlic bread. However, when I opened my chicken marsala at home and looked at it closely, it contained only potatoes, mushrooms, and sauce—not a single piece of chicken.
To their credit, they did offer and delivered a replacement. While I appreciate the gesture, we will no longer be ordering from this location due to the consistent and...
