River Road Eatery — Restaurant in Winhall

Sad to say, the takeout we got was terrible. The crust was chewy and dry, the chicken on the pizza was just as chewy and dry as the crust, and there was an unnecessary amount of onions on the BBQ chicken pizza. Also, found a few decent size pieces of onion peel to go along with the onions (extra fiber?). The gluten-free pie crust was not as bad, but the chicken was every bit as dry. Neither pie had sufficient sauce, so it was kind of like biting into an unseasoned sponge. The food was edible, but extremely overpriced for what was certainly the worst pizza I have had that I can recall. It is a shame because the restaurant itself is nicely decorated (love the Anthony Bourdain quote, don't think he would approve of this pizza, though) and the staff was very friendly. I was so excited and waited months for this place to open, hoping that there would finally be decent pizza within an hour of the area, but was extremely disappointed with everything we ordered. We spent over $60 for 2 salads and a pizza, and most of it went right into the trash.

The salads looked great, but once we got them home we realized that the lettuce wasn't cut up, but rather an entire romaine heart. So we needed to do our own prep on takeout by cutting the lettuce up and dressing it. The croutons looked amazing but they were stale and chewy.

The pizza was the worst pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Literally inedible. There was almost no tomato sauce on it, and the crust and cheese were so dry that we couldn't even swallow it. It was like eating a dry box of communion wafers. Zero seasoning, zero taste. We certainly won't...

Our experience at this establishment was deeply disappointing. While Steven initially appeared friendly when taking our orders and serving water, the service quickly turned unprofessional. We were repeatedly told that our order was delayed, yet we observed two other groups of customers who arrived after us receive their meals, dine, and leave while we were still waiting for our food. After nearly an hour with no updates or a single item served, we felt we had no choice but to leave.

What made the experience worse was the lack of acknowledgment or explanation as we exited; staff simply stared without addressing the situation. If the decision has been made not to serve certain customers, it would be more respectful to refuse service upfront rather than wasting their time and leaving them...
