I feel it is important to inform any future patrons with my experience, so heads up, longer review, but worth the read. They do offer take out and have tables and tents outside, that was nice to see in regulation with the current regulations we have available from the state as an option. However, going inside to pick up my order that they said on the phone was 25, turned into 35 minutes (not awful except waiting inside was slightly cooler than outside, they didn't offer to come get me, so I stayed inside and only patrons wore face coverings actively on their faces, employees in the kitchen had them around their necks or under their chins and that made me uncomfortable). I ordered 5 sandwiches, 3 sides and a slice of cake, and it was $75.00, which is a price I expect at the boardwalk, or a higher up restaurant, not a tavern, so I was expecting amazing food. The sandwich temperatures were pretty good for takeout, they were packaged in styrofoam, and that kept a decent temperature for the ride home. The rest of the quality was downhill from there. I had ordered 2 roast beefs, 2 porks, and a sausage and peppers, for the sandwiches. First, the kaiser rolls were ordinary rolls I could have got from Shoprite or even Sam's Club. My pork had roast beef on it, had a half burnt bun that I guess was supposed to be grilled, but my other sandwiches didn't have any toastings of any sort, so that was weird and not requested. The roast beef was so dry. You expect a hot roast beef sandwich to be dripping in drippings and be moist, but no, no drippings, just roast beef that could have been heated up deli meat instead of "steam table hand carved"... So both pork and roast beef sandwiches had sides of "au jus" sauce, so tasted it before putting it on and it did not really taste like much other than low sodium beef broth. Adding it to the sandwich was adding moisture, but no flavor. My bf was so glad he ordered his roast beef with peppers to give it some character because my other friend said theirs didn't taste like anything, that's why I had to try it, and I agree. There was also a side of chips for the sandwiches, but don't get too excited...they were stale. They weren't individual bags of chips, so we were excited for them being ruffle style, and a nice portion, but it wasn't worth it. They were so stale I'm still thinking how they could get so stale, and this was a meal on Saturday, and it is Tuesday of the following week.Fries were good, onion rings were not. One order was just a ball of onion with some fried batter and a few stray loose onion rings, but that is not a take out food. I'll give that the benefit of the doubt, it was very heavy and oily, but my experience with a fried food like that is you need to start eating it once it hits the table for that satisfying crunch and light delicateness of the side, so go do the outside dining for that. The cake was probably the cherry on top prompting this review. $7 for a not $7 sized piece of cheesecake. First, they said my order was ready, and they didn't even have the cheesecake in the bags. I'll add the picture. It had a good flavor, but that price gave me an expectation of it's gonna be some damn near best-cake-ever cake, for that size. I'd say it was the more up-charged thing on size alone, because it was not the best cake, it was just good cake to me, and was just more disappointing because it did not even out expectations with that price. It isn't your usual bar food options, which I was expecting because the title is a "tavern" but maybe they're after changing the definition in some hipster way or something because the prices say "quality" but are definitely hipster because who else is charging $75 for that order? That is a $50 order at any other tavern, with better quality or portion ratio, and not stale chips or flavorless broth to try resurrecting a...
Read moreCame here last night for dinner to celebrate my nephews 15th birthday and I’m glad we did. We had reservations and our party was 4 adults and3 children. Upon arrival we were promptly seated and our table was ready. Set up perfectly we got seated in the outside tent. There is an indoor seating section also but I was highly satisfied with our seating it was nice cozy atmosphere decorated and lighting was perfect. We were immediately greeted by our waiter Kevin who was amazing. He was attentive personal, and professional. The menu had great selections we went with the specials. This night they had all you can eat Alaska snow crab legs,My nephew n daughter love the snow crab legs. So they went with that as I went with the home made meatloaf special Kevin took our apps and drink orders and they were delivered quickly to the table. The drinks were made to perfection and they had great choices. For an appetizer I chose the Ahi tuna ( two way) came seared and tar tar. It was fresh and prepared perfectly and was delicious! Soon after our drinks and apps. Keven returned n took our entrée orders. After a short wait all of our entrees came out together and we all began our meals. The meat loaf special was delicious came with a medley a vegetables and mashed potato’s. Portions were large and the meal was delicious. As for the crabs my daughter and nephew sure took advantage of the all you can eat and each had four bowls of crab well worth the price. I sampled the crab and it was cooked to perfection, and was fresh and tasty. Towards the end of our meal Matt the owner and chef came to the table and checked on our party to ensure we were satisfied and the meals were to our liking. I thought this What’s a nice gesture. You can tell he cares and has pride in the dinners and specials he selects and prepares. We had an excellent evening!! The food was delicious. Come dine here you will not be disappointed. It may look like a small quaint place just off of route 73 but it is packed with flavor and delicious food for a great price! Great job! I’ll definitely be back again. 5 star food and service. This restaurant did not ask for a review but I am a true believer that great service is hard to find and when you do it should be rewarded. An a simple review is well deserved! Thank you we all had an enjoyable...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped here on the way home from the shore for an early dinner/late lunch. We had never been here and thought it was a great opportunity to try it. It was 3 o'clock in the afternoon and was not crowded. We were greeted immediately by a friendly woman who took us to be seated in the back. She brought us some waters, took our drink order and when she returned, we put our food order in. We ordered the onion rings, chicken eggplant sandwich and chicken sandwich with long hots and spinach. Our drinks come. The appetizer comes. The main courses come and the appetizer plate leaves. Fast forward 20 plus minutes and we never had anyone visit to see how the food was or if we needed refills, etc. The table two over was being attended to by the same waiter who delivered our food. Our original server was nowhere to be seen, but I think she was also the bartender. There was an older blonde waitress who walked past several times without asking if we were OK. We sat there for about 10-15 minutes with napkins folded over our plates. Meanwhile the table two over got all the attention it needed; desserts, wrapped leftovers, drinks etc. They even greeted Matt. Flagged down the younger guy and got another round from him. Beers delivered and no one took the plates. Drank the beers and waited. Flagged down the older blonde waitress to get the check and she asked if we wanted boxes. Even though my wife's meal was only half-eaten, she didn't ask if there was a problem with the food. We said 'no, we will just take the check'. She returned with the check and then we waited another ten minutes or more for someone to take it. While sitting there, we debated about just leaving the amount of the check in cash with no tip. We felt that was suitable since we received less than the bare minimum of service and frankly was not sure who would be getting the tip since no one stepped up and took control, but left a small tip anyway. Maybe we were lost in the shuffle of a shift change, or lost in the communication between staff. We felt invisible to almost all employees. Frankly the food the was good. Fries were very good. Sandwiches were good. Service was abysmal and it was not even a busy time. Despite the good food, we will not be returning. Matt thanked us when we left and seemed...
