Carollo’s Family Restaurant…
..Who treats their family like this? The wife and I decided to stay in and order some Grubhub delivery vs actually going out to an actual nice Italian restaurant. Ordered the stuffed longhots appetizer, linguini pescatore for me and penne alla vodka for her. Restaurant called us immediately after the order was put in to let us know that they didn’t have long hots. Why wouldn’t you 86 it (remove it) from the online menu if you’re out of an item before someone orders it? They asked if we wanted to replace it with something else. We asked to replace it with the clams casino. We were told it would be an additional $3. So instead of the restaurant eating the $3 for the inconvenience and for the sake of customer service, they would rather lose the sale of an appetizer and that they did. Of course, the restaurant can’t issue a refund so now I get to wait for Grubhub. Food took forever to get delivered but that was on the Grubhub delivery guy, not the restaurant but in saying that, I wish the restaurant would’ve taken a little more time preparing the dishes because it was mediocre at best. My wife liked her penne vodka but that’s a tough dish to screw up. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. The entrees came with seafood bisque soups. Flavor was okay but the soups were gelatinous. That’s exactly what you want in a bisque! Jello! This restaurant believes in quantity over quality. The pescatore came in a large aluminum pan with some weight to it. It was nice to see but after closer examination it was all fluff. Lots of pasta, only two shrimp in the entire dish and 2 or 3 small scallops. Calamari was rubbery and a few of the mussels and clams were just shells with no meat in sight. I am not sure why this restaurant has over a 4 star rating or why there are so many of them. Who (without tastebuds) is supporting these people? We are first and last time customers. Even the “Italian restaurant” with the unlimited soup, salad and breadsticks does better than this and atleast when you’re there, you are family! Do...
Read moreI ordered food last night, and the whole experience was horrible! First we were told by the manager that the food would be there in 45 minutes, that’s fine considering it’s a Saturday night, and we knew it would probably take longer, so an hour and 15 later the food gets here, and we’re missing my husbands food and my salad. We call and speak to Amanda the most unprofessional manager I’ve ever come in contact with. So we call and complain, and say that our food wasn’t all there and she missed a salad, upon reviewing the receipt she said we didn’t pay for 2 side salads just one, and I said we asked for two, and she says well that’s not my fault hon it’s noisy in here. So she then asked if I would like to be charged for the extra salad “it’s $4”! I said why would I be charged, first we waited over an hour for food, then our order was messed up, the least she could have done was give us the salad for free for all of our troubles, she wasn’t budging on the salad so I said I don’t want to be charged for the salad. On the phone with her she said the driver just left, we live 4 minutes up the road, and it was another 20-30 before our food got there, I called and she said hon he had other deliveries before delivering the food that was missing!!!!!!! Like what? As a business she should have put the others on hold and got ours straight out! I said what kind of business are you running, and she said I run the front girls not the delivery or cooks, they’re on their own and plus it’s not my business hon. Like what kind of manager do you have running this? My husband heard the whole thing. We were loyal customers until this incident, couldn’t even help make the customer happy for all the troubles! Amanda is the absolute worst manger, you need her gone before she runs that business...
Read moreIf you get turned off by the salad maker rubbing her runny nose while making a salad don’t go to Carollo’s.
That was my introduction to Carollo’s a few years back when they opened a new restaurant in Berlin, NJ. My daughter who works in food preparation forbade us to return.
Flash forward to this year as I’m soliciting fund raising for a local charity event. “If they donate anything I’ll be willing to lift our ban”, she said.
After six phone calls and a visit where I spoke to three different employees and was told “Oscar is the boss and makes those decisions” or “he’s busy opening another restaurant” or “he’ll be in later and I’ll give him the message” or “I’ll give the message to his daughter to give to him” I gave up.
One last call to say “I guess Oscar or anyone from Carollo’s is never going to call me. I guess you thought I’d get the hint and just go away. I guess you don’t support local charities. I guess you just open restaurants, make profits off the local community and don’t give back to them?”
The response: “Well we get lots of requests for fundraising but he doesn’t ever really do any of that”.
Well… “Thanks for calling me back and politely declining. Would have understood. Thanks for wasting my valuable time ignoring me.” Probably chuckled every time after I called saying “yeah right you’ll never see a dime from us.”
I hope Oscar and Carollo’s is at least spending their time telling their food preparers it’s NOT ok to wipe their runny noses with their hands and go right back to preparing someone’s meal. One thing is for sure- IT WON’T EVER BE MY...
