Evening Disaster Dinner - Overpriced, inedible, bad service
A group of 6 of us took the new gondola ride up to Sunspot for supper. The ambiance was great. Everything else was HORRIBLE. The evening meal is a $60 three course dinner, with drinks extra. You have a choice of one soup and one salad to start, a choice of 7 or 8 entrees, and no choice for dessert, you get whatever they are serving. We waited for 35 minutes, and still did not have our drinks when we complained for the first time. The service was bad, and the food was appalling. We were not allowed to order any less than the full price option. No, we could not just have a salad...
Out of the 6 people in our party, we ordered 5 different entrees. Only 1 person was satisfied with their food. I ordered the prime rib, which I figured would be a straightforward proposition, but after 1 bite of incredibly chewy, stringy and weird tasting meat, I gave up. Another person in our group tried it and said they could not figure out what meat it was, but it was bad.
None of us will EVER go back there. We all agreed that we should send in reviews of this terrible, expensive experience to protect other diners. This is a great location - just go eat lunch or visit the bar, BUT DO NOT EAT THERE FOR SUPPER. This is a tourist trap, with little or no repeat business. FYI, I have visited WP for over 25 years, in the winter and summer so this review is propelled a little by outrage for "horribleness" in the middle of one of my...
Read moreI am sadly writing this review... we were hosting family from out of town and thought dinner on the mountain top would be amazing.... the gondola great, the lodge super cute, the food pretty good! The service horriable!!! I don't understand how a restaurant charging $70 a plate can fail to train their staff. No refills on drinks, the bottle of wine was left without ice, the server had no idea what our options were for the children ordering with 3 trips to the kitchen trying to figure that out. Even the dressing for salads were in question??? No prime rib at 6:30... they sold out!?? And we were not even informed about it until after spending 25 minutes waiting to order. I feel like with the server struggling with our table the way that he did a manager should have at...
Read moreTerrible. Actually inedible. We went for happy hour. Now, my standards for food on a ski slope are pretty low but they managed to still fall hopelessly short. We had the unfortunate experience of tasting a lukewarm hot dog covered with ice cold chili and unmelted shredded cheese on a stale cold bun paired with some room temperature, soggy french fries, and two old, un-topped, cold potatoes skins. Who serves potato skins with nothing on them? No bacon, no cheese, zilch. The only thing edible were the Thai chili wings. The rest of our $30 food order went in the garbage. We finished our beers and headed back down the mountain. The gondola ride to the top is cool, and the view is beautiful, just don't spoil it by eating...
