We finally made it to this popular seafood restaurant on Rt. 1 in Wiscasset. It has been on our list for years, but we never timed it correctly. So glad we stopped at this roadside gem. Friendly service at the counter. Takeout or order for dine-in and they'll call your number when your order is ready. There's a service station with tartar sauce, ketchup and napkins and plastic utensils to get your own supplies. Lots of booths and a few larger tables in the two dining rooms. A large outdoor seating area as well. The fried clams ($26.99 MARKET PRICE) and the Haddock Reuben special ($13.99) were stupendous! The clams were lightly battered and flavorful, not chewy. The large sandwich was on the softest marble rye bread with a fried haddock fillet, cole slaw, Swiss cheese and Thousand Islands dressing. This place has been recommended to us for years and we're happy we finally made it there. Worth a stop. 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We love the food and the friendly welcoming staff here. John and his team are awesome! We highly recommend the award winning lobster stew and the various fried fish offerings. But the best kept secret is the highly craveable and addicting haddock chowder, served with a warm buttered roll and oyster crackers. At $10.99 for a bowl (16 oz), this is a steal that we have to get at least once a month and wish we would remember to grab some pre-frozen containers for when they are closed during the holidays. Don't sleep on the Haddock Reuben either. Along with the usual offering of fountain and bottled beverages, they also have a drink fridge in the corner where they stock local Maine sodas. Our favorites are the unique Green Bee honey sweetened sodas (you can't go wrong with any of their flavors). Note: they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Honestly pleasantly surprised. I went here with a few friends while staying in Maine for an early dinner. Two of us, myself included, are gluten intolerant so we weren't sure what we could expect. I was shocked to find out that over 75% of the menu had a gluten free option that looked near identical to the regular offerings. We mostly got gluten free seafood baskets and one person got gluten free onion rings both of which were delicious. The portion sizes are enormous so unless you have a massive appetite, 1 order should be more than enough, I had food for 2 days and only ordered 1 item. Their best items in my humble opinion are the fried haddock and scallops. Please be aware if you are gluten intolerant or celiac, don't order the soups, they are made with flour. Oh and they do a have gluten free bread option so lobster rolls are an option.

EDIT BECAUSE OF OWNERS COMMENT: I NEVER said it was "rotten" (my friend might have, I'm not sure what she said, but I definitely did not). I said something appeared to be wrong with it - all I wanted was a message to go to management that there could have been something wrong with the fish. I even stated it could have simply been undercooked. It was 8 minutes from when we go the order until we walked out the door. We didn't have the food to show simply because we were NOT complaining about it - as we walked out I thought I should maybe mention it - and it was the cashier who offered a refund and the manager - I never asked for a refund!!!! This owner is something else....he is now looking for reviews I left and leaving messages making himself sound great. He came around the corner once the cashier got him with fire in his eyes to the point that I literally stepped back because he scared me (and there was a counter between us). My friend did keep repeating that something was wrong (she is an elderly lady - he should have respected and revered her and instead shot her down and basically called her a liar without saying those words). ALL I wanted was for him to look into it - one piece of fish could be not quite good out of a whole batch - I didn't blame HIM for that but he kept saying "I just cut it this morning" - fine you cut it this morning, but that was irrelevant. How about simply saying "I'm so sorry about that. What can I do to make it up to you?" - a little honey goes a lot further than a lot of vinegar. Had he simply said those words to me this review wouldn't have been written, and I'd have said "could you please just check the other fish so someone does not get sick" and would have left my merry way. I probably would have even eaten there again. But now? No way. And due to the CONTINUED disrespect (and still lack of apology) I will not only not eat there but will advice others to avoid as well.

This haddock was either undercooked or bad. We talked to the lady at the front - just simply told her that her management should check on the haddock as something seemed off - we were VERY polite - did not complain, did not ask for money back. SHE offered money back and said she was getting the manager. The manager (owner!) came out and was VERY defensive and all he would repeat is "I just cut that this morning". I don't CARE if you just cut it this morning - something was wrong with it - I was being polity - I had not asked for a refund...it was offered to me by an employee. Not only would he not give money back but he treated us with disrespect and acted as though we were lying. Again - it had NOTHING to do with money back - we didn't go up to the counter for that reason - we wanted them aware that something was wrong - the lady at the counter is who said the manger will refund us!!!

My friend was very sick feeling all day and ended up getting VERY sick (vomiting bad) from it. And no one can claim that it was not due to that -it was the only thing she had eaten all day - she could not eat after.

If the manager/owner had simply been kind to us this review never would have happened. But bad food AND bad service. Uh, no way. You do NOT treat people with disrespect after serving bad food!!! Again - I did not even request a refund - all I wanted was an apology and an "I will definitely look into this". Instead I got an attitude and he said no less than 8 times in 2 minutes "I don't know what to tell you. I just cut it this morning". Wow. Just wow.

Do yourself a favor - travel a bit and find a GOOD seafood restaurant. The Sea Basket is no...

I live close by & have eaten chicken baskets at this establishment multiple times. My family came up from Portland, I suggested this over Taste of Maine. When biting into her haddock sandwich my mother immediately complained of a weird taste and that the inside was light brown and streaky in color. Both sides of my family are locals, generations of Mainers dating back, and we all confirmed that was not right & she should go up, we assured her the lady upfront looked nice and we were sure she would help. She voiced her concerns and a man in the back immediately tried to invalidate them so she walked away from the situation since he clearly wanted to offer no help. When he realized she wasn’t about to back and forth with him he then rudely shouted across the lobby if she would like another one, which of course she did not. The problem is not what may have been an improperly bled piece of fish but how the owner handled the situation. I work in service and understand the customer is not always right, but when it comes to a concern over food, especially meat, it should be taken seriously and...

Honestly deserves 10 stars. I ordered takeout tonight and I want to start off with the packaging.. from the napkin nicely wrapped around the plastic silverware to the sturdy half of a cardboard box holding the take out boxes/paper bags instead of those no good plastic bags that shake up your meal like a blender..you can actually tell BEFORE even tasting the food just how much thought and care went into it.

Now the food.. I’ve lived in maine since birth and that means you taste quite a few seafood items from quite a few seafood places in your life.. this was the biggest portion I’ve ever received for the price I paid and it was DELICIOUS! The haddock chowder was very good and the fried haddock/chicken platter has a very generous amount of fish and chicken tenders, HUGEE potato wedges (I substituted them instead of fries), a biscuit that was cut in half and toasted with butter instead of just a bread lump thrown at the bottom of a bag.. one of the many small details that show they took the extra time to make it amazing....
