I had heard mixed but mostly positive reviews and we were in the area so we decided to give it a try.
We ordered the Cajun chicken egg rolls for $13. They sounded good but were very greasy. We literally had to wipe up a pool of oil on our plates before eating anything else with the same plate.
The garlic Parmesan wings were $20 a dozen but were decent sized. Interesting presentation, the wings had the Parmesan sprinkled on them, but the sauce was underneath the wings on the plate. This made for real crispy wings but if you want them with sauce, you had to drag them through the sauce. I liked this idea, the rest of my crew wished there was sauce on the wings.
We ordered fries for $8 and it was a full plate, perfectly golden and not greasy like the egg rolls.
We ordered the margherita pie for a steep $27. They have a thin cracker like crust which was crispy but with no chew to the dough. Reminded me of Pete and Eldas or Chimney Rock. They put fresh tomatoes on their margherita which wasnt indicated on their menu and with 'out of season' tomatoes it was not a pleasant surprise add on. The Margherita could have used more fresh mozzarella, too many bites were simply dough and tomato sauce with those bland tomatoes. The sauce was pasty and thick and we all thought it lacked flavor. After we finished we saw tables next to us get other pizzas that looked much better than the Margherita pie we ordered. Draft Miller lite was $6.50.
We left underwhelmed. I think between ordering the wrong pizza and the egg roll appetizer swimming in grease it was just a bad experience. Their pricing is ridiculously high for a neighborhood spot, especially at $27 for a mediocre Margherita pie. If you order ala cart toppings they are $8 each. That's just obscene for a 16" pie.
No photos on this review, nothing was photo worthy.
I don't like to leave a poor review unless my experience is horrible and no one cares, so I upped this to a 3 star. But truthfully we wouldn't go back. There are too many other much better spots for pizza and wings. Hopefully we caught them on an off day but even on a good day $30 pizzas are a bit hard to swallow, and $7 drafts don't make...
Read moreI have been a frequent patron of this establishment for about 20+ years. I continue to return solely based on location and decent beer and slice specials. The staff is all friendly except for one extremely rude lady with glasses and shoulder length dark hair. She has horrendous customer service skills and embarrassed one of the young bus boys in front of a crowded bar, extremely unprofessional. I get treated differently by her based on what I am wearing and who my company is. God forbid the place is semi-busy, which is pretty often, sbhe will rush you with your order and be totally inattentive afterwards. If you attempt to ask for ANYTHING after you order, she seems disgusted and upset to be a waitress/bartender at a pizzeria for the latter part of her life. Unfortunately that 1 employee that has been there far too long has left a terrible impression on me and many other's i have brought there based on my recommendation in the past. It is clear that locals and regulars get preference , especially all the municipality workers for obvious reasons. There is never a so-called boss or manager to address any concerns because at this point the place is on cruise control and 1 unsatisfied, loyal customer will easily go unnoticed. The pizza is overall better than most but is the most inconsistent on a regular basis. 2 slices from 1 hour to the next will look completely different, and be over or under cooked, stiff or soggy. It seems the limo company takes precedence over the pub. I'd love to share more positive insight because the place is a local landmark. ALOT of $$$ is being lost due to poor service on a more frequent basis than ever before. Hopefully these issues are addressed...
Read moreFirst time back since before the pandemic, and wow. The staff here is amazing. All are friendly, not one person was off base. And they all worked in sync with each other, almost like a family. It's as if they could read each other's mind: where, how, who, drinks, food, apps, etc. I've been running a high volume retail pharmacy chain for 30 years and can appreciate how well trained the staff was. In speaking to our "waitress", turns out, she's the owner. And I pieced it together. In just saying hi, and commenting her on the staff, where most people will just thank me.... she begins to introduce them all as they walk by, almost like a proud mom! It was amazing. The care and respect she has for each individual team member is the "why" behind the staff being so fantastic and the "why" behind the place being PACKED with customers, all enjoying their meal and all very happy with the experience. And don't even get me started with the food. Hands down, one of the BEST pizzas in NJ/NY. Not lying, you need to try it. Their chicken sandwiches are to die for, food is hot and made to order, not waiting, very fresh. And man oh man, funnel cake fries are THE THING, lol. Great place, great environment, great place for adults kids alike, and a great family that works there. I will not only be coming back, but all my friends will get sent there. Very impressive. Thanks so much for...
