I'm not really sure where to start but I just had an awful experience at this Green Mill. I was having a dinner with my wife and kids who are 8 and 6. It was about 730pm and they weren't too busy but for some reason they wanted us to sit in the bar area. I told the hostess that we would prefer not to (we had kids duh!!!) but she showed us a booth by the bar and I just agreed to sit there. My wife and I each ordered our own boneless buffalo wings and each ordered a side of fries. About 15 minutes later they brought 2 orders of some weird looking sauced wings and I told the waitress these were wrong. She say's puzzled, oh yeah they are wrong. Then she has the nerve to say, this kind is really good. Do you wanna try them to see if you'd rather have these?? What?? If I wanted to try them I would have ordered them. She apologized and said she would bring new ones out. 5 minutes later she brought 2 new ones out that looked off to me. These wings looked to be washed off and recoated with buffalo sauce. I tried one and it tasted like buffalo mixed with something sweet. I've been eating Dixie wings there for at least 10 yes and they didn't taste right. They were also soggy. I'm not a cook but I do know fried chicken wings should be crispy on the outside and these were not even close. BTW right now my stomach is just rotting inside while I type this. So back to the review I called the waitress over and said these aren't right, I showed her how soggy they were and she agreed and asked if I wanted a new order. I said I want my check and I wanna get out of here now without eating the wings. I also told her that I suspected the cook of washing these wings off and re serving them to me. Now she says that the new ones were just not fresh and were fried about 20 minutes prior which is why they were not crispy! Are you kidding me?!?! So she brings out my check and says I only billed you for the fries you ordered. Really I got billed $9 for 2 of the tiniest fry portions I've ever seen??? I still gave my card to her but also told her that I was pretty sure the restaurant broke laws in the food service industry and that I would pay this bullish* tab and that I wanted the phone number of the district manager. She brought back the receipt for me to sign along with the store managers business card, I left no tip and wrote a message on that receipt I signed for the district manager to call me asap. A manager by the name of Bob also came over to apologize but it was way to late for that and we had just watched this guy who looked 16 leaning all over the front counter very unprofessionally which me and my wife took notice to even before the food issue occurred. I interrupted his apology and told him I just wanted to leave. He immediately said OK and walked away. I plan to pursue this issue further with upper management, possibly the food inspection dept but take my word for it, DO NOT EAT AT THE GREEN MILL IN...
Read moreI, so rarely, give a one-star rating at a place. I always try to see beyond a one-time event. For example, if the service is slow, is it because someone called in sick, they're understaffed, etc. I sat on this review for quite some time. Again, I don't ever want to just give a one star unless it's truly deserved. And folks... this is truly deserved.
When we first got there, it was insanely busy. I love it when a place is busy because I'm thinking this must be a great place.
We were seated and our server asked what we wanted to drink. We told him and he walked away as we were trying to put in for appetizers. So no appetizers for us I guess.
We waited for a little over 10 minutes for our server to come back with our drinks or just to come back period. Nothing.
So I went to the bar, which had very few people seated at and asked for our drinks and would it be possible to put our order for dinner in with her. Well, let's just say she (the bartender) must've been having a bad night as she told me, "take your seat and your server will help you." I admit, I was taken aback. The manager stepped in and asked what our drink order was and I conveyed it to her. The bartender, suddenly, had no problem procuring the order and handing it to me.
I brought our drinks back and our server came back about five minutes later (so about 20 minutes after putting our drink order in). We placed our food order and were very excited for dinner.
Our food was brought out fairly quickly. Everyone else's food was "good" or "ok."
My walleye was pretty gross. The batter was mush. Just absolutely gross texture. To the point I slid the batter off. My thinking was I'll just eat the filet. The filet was so slimy and tasteless that I stopped, well, more like couldn't have any more. So I thought, well I'll try to enjoy the fries and asked for malted vinegar... nope. They don't have that.
Fine. There's places I've been where I left and felt right away that was horrible and it should be one star. But then I'll reflect on it think maybe it was a one off and I'll go back and it's great.
Not this place. We couldn't get our drink order. I had to. We couldn't put an order for appetizers. The quality of food was not very good, to the point, mine wasn't horrible, it was disgusting. No malted vinegar was a disappointment, but seemed par for the course at this place.
I do NOT recommend coming here.
I hope this...
Read moreI rarely ever leave negative reviews, (I csnt even think of the last one i left) but the experience I had at this restaurant on Mother's Day 2022 weighs on me. If I was to give you the short version, I would tell you that the night ended in my Mother's Day dinner being procured from the drive-thru window of a nearby McDonalds.
For those who don't mind a slightly linger version, we got to the restaurant that evening some time around 6:30p. It was not busy, so we figured we had made a smart choice in where we would be dining for the night.
First of all, the appetizers took quite a while and came out cold. Which would be understandable if the venue was short staffed, but as we sat there waiting for appetizers and the dinner we never did get after having sat at the table for an hour and a half, I watched one staff member wiping down tables when less than half of the tables were occupied and there was no one waiting to be seated, our waiter continuously poking around at the waitstaff terminal, someone else holding up the bar talking to him, and the manager apologizing to another table for the poor service. Worse still, he was rubbing the back of a woman who clearly didn't want to be bothered with him, which I felt was inappropriate.
I finally realized how long we were waiting and I walked up to our waiter, who had been scarce, and let him know I'd take a bill for the drinks and be leaving. He didn't seem to mind much. As I'm not a heartless person, I still tipped a couple of dollars before leaving, and on my way out, listened to the manager repeatedly apologizing regarding a take out order.
To be honest, this is not the first subpar experience I have had at this location, and, service aside, every time I go, the HVAC does not seem to be working. We were there last summer and it was so hot, there was sweat literally dripping down my face, and I do not get hot easily. This past visit, I was so cold I was shaking even though I was wearing a jacket.
I don't know what is happening here, but I will not be returning. It was a waste of time, and my young children were disappointed when we had to leave and get McDonald's, which made me feel guilty, but they had school the following day ans I was not prepared to spend another hour there...
