Sun Sing House — Restaurant in Woodson Terrace

EDIT: This place changed post pandemic. Their hours are so limited and are closed at random times with no warning so you never know when they'll be open. They severely cut the menu back, no longer offering some our favorite orders. Some of that is understandable because many things changed due to the pandemic and people have to run a tighter ship. But worst of all, they have changed some of their main-stay recipes and not for the better. Why would you change the recipe of foods that delighted your customer base for nearly 50 years? All good things come to an end, I suppose. My family that has made the trip out to North County since 1980 has now agreed its no longer worth the trip. We're talking 3 generations no longer see the point because we can get generic chinese anywhere (and not have to call to make sure the place will actually be open). We didn't see this day coming and we're heartbroken because it's the end of an era for us. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I literally can't imagine anyone giving this place less than 5 stars. I've eaten at Chinese restaurants coast to coast. I've never eaten Chinese food in China, but I know what's here in America. My family has gotten take out from Sun Sing since 1980 and it never fails to please. You will NOT find fried rice like this anywhere else. The egg foo yung is also a stand out. My dad and I love the old fashioned chop suey. I don't know that I've ever eaten anything I DIDN'T like. I only wish they didn't change the style of their egg rolls a few decades ago. Update: They have a sign that says they open at noon. It is Friday 4h November 2022 12:20 and there is no evidence of life here. Still closed. No lights. No activity that shows they will open soon. Nothing. I waited until 12:20 then ran out of time to wait any longer. As usual. I’m afraid my original review from below still stands. Do not come here unless you have an alternate plan for lunch in case they are not open when they say they will be.

Food is pretty good. Hours are HORRIBLY unreliable. I am outside the shop as we speak. It is now one hour past published opening time and door is locked tight with no sign of opening or message that they will be late or unable to be open today. This place is incredible. If you ever have issues with calling in your order it's because everyone that knows about the place eats there often; making them infinitely busy. There are usually only two people working at any given time but they manage well. The quality of the food is confusingly good for how affordable the price is. I don't even like St. Paul sandwiches but from here I do.

If Sun Sing House ever closes it's because the world is about to end.

p.s. - I used to exclusively pay in quarters and they never made me feel like a jerk. Truly good...
