This place has fantastic churros, cooked perfectly, and the best dip for it. There are 2 dios, and I am surprised to report that I was told that you actually have to ask for them when you order the churros. My 1st time ordering I received them, and didn't know they even came with a dip. 2nd time no dip, no utensils, no bueno. 3rd time I mentioned the dio and found out the above info, plus that there were 2 dips!! To have to ask for either makes no sense, if anything it should be offered. Things like the churros and the drinks aren't even on the inline menu...so how would anyone know what comes.with it or not?? The was some confusion on the menu item I was asking for, and trying to direct the employee to online, and what the employee thought I was talking about. If it is not correct online then it should be fixed, or employees should be able to locate and identify an item on their own website for confirmation. These are my only gripes. The large drinks are huge and worth the money for the jamaican hibiscus ( aka sorrel) at least. The horchata was gritty or powdery, may have been too much cinnamon or something not stirred up well AT ALL. I did not like it, and I love horchata. They did let me switch it however. Just remember that jamaican hibiscus is very sweet, but it is delicious. The tacos were pretty good, including the fried fish taco, carne asada was decent. I had a couple of other items that were good as well. The chimichanga was decent enough, but the crust was very good. It's a good place to add to your try list, and is definitely worth grabbing churros from. Just remember to ask...
Read moreSo for our latest adventure, we gave a second try to a place that's been popping up again so we thought, what the heck. The last time we went was probably 10 years ago. Well, it wasn't any better this time than I remembered. Not awful, but not great. Right in the middle I'd say. Definitely no Taco Spot!
The place is decorated very cute and there is parking out back which is a plus.
Our bartender was Very new but polite and did a good job for a greenie. The girl training her seemed to be fairly new as well but they were both pleasant and eager to please.
My wife went simple on the drinks and just had a couple of black Russians as she can't stand tequila but I'm a fan and had a couple of Palomas. They were tasty and well done.
The food was the biggest let down for us here. Chips and salsa were brought out right away and the salsa had julienned carrots which was different but not unpleasant. For an app we had the stuffed Jalapenos. Like a stuffed pepper, literally but with a bit of Mexican flair. They were ok but fairly bland. For meals my wife had the Chimichanga and I had the Chipotle Diabla Shrimp. Again, the dishes were just ok. Definitely not somewhere I'd look forward to going back to.
On to the next one!!
Side note: If you're looking for tacos outside of Worcester, AfroFusion in Webster has 💣 Birria tacos! I've had them twice now and they...
Read moreI rate Mexican restaurants based on their guacamole and their margaritas. I’ve been to Pepe’s twice now. 07/26 and 07/28. I left feeling unsure on 07/26 so I wanted to give it another shot before writing a review. I was by myself on 07/26 and was able to get a seat at the bar. The male bartender working that night was unsociable and inattentive. He was more focused on a particular crowd at the end of the bar, oppose to the entire bar. So to get a drink, it took forever. While there, I witnessed one person who came in, had 1 coors light and left because he waited 10min just to get that 1 beer. I can say the margaritas are actually very good (if you can get one). The guacamole and the salsa are trash. The guacamole itself tasted ok, but the tomatoes tasted rotten and bland. And it makes sense after learning that this is a sister restaurant of el patron, and I personally think their guacamole and salsa are trash as well. For my meal I had the chicharron tacos and they were awesome! When we went back a few days later, there were 3 of us this time. We got a seat at the bar. And again.. waited 10 minutes and no one even acknowledged us. It sucks cause it’s in our neighborhood, so it would have been a convenient place to go, but we...
