My mom & I drove up from Mt Vernon last weekend, as MTV is very sparse in open restaurant's on Sunday, esp ones that serve breakfast. Great homey atmosphere. They were pretty crowded as we arrived around 12:30pm. We were acknowledged to sit anywhere, and waited on pretty quickly. Our server was great, but did not catch her name (had red hair). I was impressed that she brought out an extra glass of ice on the side for my iced tea without me asking, and brought one in a to go cup at the end of meal. Those are super thoughtful little things that add to a person's meal/visit, that I've very very rarely had other servers do. Food was great, I had eggs, bacon, toast, and homefries were so good! I also added a cup of sausage gravy. My mom had pancakes. Everything was hot, and came pretty quickly for the amount of people there. I also ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich to go, which was good, maybe a little more seasoning in breading would be better, but overall good. Food was reasonably priced, especially breakfast, as most places you have to take out a loan to buy a few eggs and bacon. Restaurant was clean, and tables were being bussed quickly after each party left. Was a little loud due to a large party sitting right next to us, and my mom has difficulty hearing, so talking was a little limited. But, if you're looking for a good mom and pop type homestyle cooking location, this fits the bill and will fill up your empty stomach! I'm sure we...
Read moreSmall, family-owned restaurant with homestyle country cooking. Friendly staff and fast service. Be aware that there aren't a lot of tables here and there may be a wait on weekend mornings.
Breakfast is served all day long, and there are daily specials for lunch and dinner. Some of the best desserts around, including homemade pies and ice cream. There are two types of French fries here--seasoned and fresh cut. The fresh cut remind me of fair fries and are very good.
The restaurant also has a small (but nice) salad bar with mixed greens, veggies, bacon, egg, cheese, dressings, cottage cheese, applesauce, potato salad, pasta salad. I wouldn't recommend purchasing the salad bar on its own--it comes free with any dinner for around the same price of what you'd pay for just...
Read moreMy friend and I stopped at The Whiffletree for breakfast after camping last night. We weren’t sure about what to expect, but I knew we were in for a treat when we walked through the door and heard Sara Evans/90s country blaring from the kitchen. The waitstaff were angels. The sausage gravy was chef’s kiss. The home fries were sliced potato prepared with probably lard and definitely love - perfectly crispy. An old timer in another booth was talking about burning tires. The coffee put three hairs on my chest. The Whiffletree gave us everything we ever hoped for in a culinary experience. 12/10...
