The only nice thing I can say is the view is beautiful and the weather was perfect other than that I will never go back to this restaurant.

We are not local to the area but I typically meet my dad in hershey as we live so far apart and like to meet halfway to have lunch and spend a few hours. We made reservations after hearing from a few friends how great this place was. We did inform them I was meeting my dad and bringing him a puppy and she stated it was ok and recc a patio seat. Upon arrival we did ask again and were told it was fine but the dog had to stay on the grass and there were no tables available near the grass. We did see picnic tables and ask if that was OK and she said yes. I had my teenage children sit on a table on the grass maybe 10 steps away from our table (we had someone beside us with a large dog on the patio) we sat down and I brought my kids the water and menu to try and be helpful. About 20 mins in a lady walked up and said she was our waitress. Then asked where the rest of our party was bec it said 7. I explained and her face was immediately annoyed. She said "I'm not walking over there so you'll just have to tell me when they are ready bec I'm busy and I don't have time to do that". I was shocked. We made reservations.. busy doesnt substitute good customer service by any means. To which I responded. Ok I took them their items to help but it made me very uncomfortable. We got our drinks and placed our order. In this time she made her rounds to every table but ours and even stopped several times at two tables and had extensive conversations with the customers and refilled drinks etc after.(busy was selective by table only apparently). Even taking our orders she was rushing us and overtalking us. When our food came out we had 2 orders not correct and others with missing items. We asked the waitress (who was not her and very NICE) could we have drinks. She said yes and she would be back. Our original waitress came out with the drinks and again with the annoyed look on her face. Ugh I was told you needed drinks.. we have no glassware and she made it seem like you had nothing (we had glasses with melted ice and again in shock that she said this to us again making us feel uncomfortable not only from making a request for drinks but talking down about her coworker to customers) and we let her know about wrong items and missing and she walked away and got them again annoyed and showing all facial expressions she was not happy to be serving us. She did not come back until we were done eating to say are you guys good? The first time in 1.5 hours. At thus point we were over it and wanted to leave. My dad went and gathered my childrens plates since she made it clear she didn't have time for our table and she then said o it's fine I'm not busy anymore. At this point we were made to feel like we were a bother our whole time here. She had a nasty attitude. I understand you are busy. But again if you cant handle your tables and give them the same service as you would if you were not thats a service problem not the customers and they should not be made to feel like it is. We are understanding and woul have never complained for slow service but bluntly being nasty and being told shes too busy to service us.. thats insane! Premade reservations and 7 people... we were treated like trash and like we inconvenienced her. With that being said I will never set foot here again and they should really reconsider how their patrons are treated by their staff. Busy is good but treating customers like trash leads to slow and...

Weird experience, the atmosphere gives off a much higher end experience feel than the food and service did.

Made the reservation and their immediate response was “okay that gives you an hour and a half at the table”, which was weird, I know during Covid times and such there were some limits on tables, but were in 2025 at this point.

My wife and I rarely get a kidless weekend, and we love to eat at different restaurants. So when we go out (in rarest occasions) we like to make it special by over ordering to try many different things for the food experience. And expect to take home several left overs.

We ordered 3 appetizers initially it was the chicken lolli’s but the waitress warned us that it would take a good amount of time to get them to the table. So that deterred us from ordering it and went with something else. And as she was walking away, I added on a Caesar salad, as their menu states they make all dressings in house. So why wouldn’t I want to experience something unique? Her reply was “are you sure? you’ve ordered a lot of food already” to which I replied, “yes we’re ordering for left overs to eat through out the weekend.” I thought this was kinda weird because, the more we order, the higher the check and the higher her tip.

We ordered drinks, I ordered a bourbon at $15, and did not get what I expected, I received MAYBE an ounce of bourbon. It came in a Glencairn glass, which is just a tasting glass so it was super small, and super empty.

Apps came we ordered the pork springs rolls, I enjoyed them, wife got the buratta, the cheese itself was good, but the crusty bread was toasted, but seemed like they toasted it well in advanced as it was super stale and to thick to enjoy. Scallops with the corn risotto were AMAZING. Cesar salad had shaved Parmesan cheese, and what seemed like Parmesan crips? Double cheese I guess. Wasn’t advertised with any cheese in the menu, as I would’ve asked without it.

I ordered the NY Strip entree, mind you I enjoy onions and mushrooms in a steak, but the onion the mushroom ratio was easily 10 to 1. The grade of steak was that I would expect of a diner. A lot of fat, (and I enjoy some fat in a steak typically) and part of it was really hard ineditable fat. I say the steak seemed “diner esk”, because there wasnt much taste to the steak. Severely under seasoned if at all. Wife ordered the Crab Stuff Maui, a bit dry without the sauce they slather on. Came with a weird (to us) celery tasting stuffing maybe? Not sure what it was, and it wasn’t advertised on the menu.

Deserts came on a dessert tray but everything was kinda melting and distorted on display. Wife ordered carrot cake, and she loved it, only took a few bites (because we order for the next few days) it was really good.

When it came time for paying the bill, it was also super weird and awkward, they give you the check, I put my car in the folder expecting them to take it away. But instead she comes back with there ordering system that doubles as a payment system, and stands there and swipes the card and holds the device extends it infront of you with the tip decision to make in front of her.

Overall, great atmosphere, but food and service gives off diner...

I'd made reservations well in advance of my daughters college graduation celebration. We'd visited on many previous occasions and were very pleased with everything, however not on this night. We were seated on the enclosed patio. This was an option we accepted in case of bad weather, which we ended up having. About 1/2 hr into our dining experience rain started coming through the awning. The manager came over and although he was investigating the problem, he offered zero assistance with cleaning up the mess or offering to relocate us. Our party decided to move the tables (all four of them). The manager didn't offer to wipe off the chairs/the table or provide replacement place settings since they were all wet with rain water. We used our napkins to clean up the rain. It took a while before we could get the server to get us replacement place settings (they weren't offered, we had to ask). We brushed it all off and accepted that the weather wasn't going to cooperate, but decided to make the most of it. Our guests went without refills on our drinks, we waited a very long time for them, once we did finally get to order them. The food was served promptly and hot. However, our server was not friendly at all, she was very short as if we were being rushed. We had a party of 12 and received 2 baskets of bread with (1) very small portion of butter for each basket of bread. My shrimp scampi was very dry and bland, although the other guest were very pleased with their meal *one star for the food. Ambiance, service, management and overall...

Highly disappointed. This was my first visit here. Upscale? Maybe a step up from a diner because of the historic building and the view. Our waitress moved at the speed of dark. The food was basically what you get in a diner, served on black plastic plates. I've included a picture of what I ordered. We also got drinks with our order and then ordered another round of beverages after our meal. There was UFOs floating at the bottom of one of the beer I've included a picture. Our waitress apologized and said maybe it was from drinking it...um we were done eating there was no way...that glass was dirty. We saw the dessert tray and it looked like the dessert were sitting there for days. Absolutely unappealing. We did talk to a manager. She apologized and said I'm sorry what the waitress said offended you...are you freaking kidding me? In my option this place is dirty. Not just because of the glass, the bathroom was dirty, the candle at the center of the table was dirty, I can't image what the kitchen looks like. Highly would avoid going here for your own safety. I am absolutely serious. I give fair reviews and I feel there is some serious issues going on here.

My hubby made reservations for 7pm last night (Friday). While on the phone, the hostess said "we would have an hour and a half which is plenty of time for dinner." We arrived about 10 minutes early and we're told that our table wasn't quite ready - which was no big deal. We walked around the gift shop, scoped out the bar, and waited. A few minutes after 7pm, the hostess let us know that the people at the table weren't getting up liked they were supposed to and asked if she could seat us in a different area, which was fine. I got a blood orange gin sour which was fantastic and hubby got a beer. We shared the Chesapeake nachos and they were screaming hot from the oven and yummy. Hubby got the Cajun Gumbo as an entree and I ordered the Mahi Mahi. The gumbo was good, not super spicy, but good. My fish was good although I wasn't a fan of the spiced chickpeas on the side - they were a sweet curry spice. I like curry, but not the sweet. The server immediately brought me some green beans which were delicious. The bar drinks were slow to come out but our server was on top of everything.

John Wright never seems to disappoint. In these trying times of 2020, JW has managed to maintain consistent quality and exceptional experience. I recently stopped in for the Sunday Brunch and was happy to see a variety of brunch options. With mamosa in tote, safety measures in place, I was able to navigate the buffet safely. Everything was delicious and we'll worth the assumed "slightly above average" buffet price (admittedly, I'm not tracking local buffet pricing). The custom 3-egg omelette, that was made to order and brought to our table, was a meal in itself. Add the additional traditional items (sausage, bacon, fruit, and amazing biscuits and gravy) and one needed to be carried out due to a blissful food coma. A brisk walk around the spacious grounds and an opportunity to take several photos along the water helped sway the coma from taking full effect. Always a delight, we will be back again to enjoy the brunch and date night dinner evenings. As a fan, I will continue to pray that 2020 ends well for this business, and that they find creative ways to stay in operation.
