A solid experience from T-Joe's Steak House. I appreciated a few of the things the house does to keep costs down: paper menus, and napkin wrapped silverware. However, the cloth napkin is still present, letting you know that these guys don't fool around. Also, the decor is pure Steakhouse: chairs sturdy enough to last fifty years or more; a bar of the blondest wood I have ever seen, with tables and chairs to match; restaurant tables with understated black table cloths.
The menu itself is no slouch either; everything from grouper to chicken fried steak to burgers to Filet Mignon to TBone to New York strip - oh my!
Still, I was hard pressed to find anything on the menu over $45.00 at time of writing. That was the Oscar.
I recommend the New York Strip, because New York Strip. I myself ordered the black and Blue Prime Rib - By the way, they will black and blue every steak on their menu - With blue cheese crumbles. If you go this far flavor wise, have either mushrooms or sauteed onions, or both on top. I made a mistake there. Also, the cook makes a soup that I'd swear was a chili - lots of beans with ground beef with a wicked spicy profile, and that was not overdone. Delicious.
My only regret was that the soup might not have been warm enough, heat wise.
My meal was cooked to my specs, though I suspect the chef prefers to cook his steaks medium rare; my wife ordered the new York strip, and her center was rare, though she did order medium. Mine was the same, but in my case, I erred on the side of caution; though Iordered medium, my center was rare as well, which was what I wanted. My wife did not complain, and loved her steak.
Ordering wine is tricky here. I found they had a solid selection of wines by the bottle, but no name for their house wines by the glass. I did order a malbec by the glass, and I did like it very much. I wish I had asked for the name of it.
Then there was the service. Louisa was a joy. We knew she was busy, but she was gracious, unhurried, prompt, soft spoken, and efficient. Our appetizers came with our soup, as we asked, but our entrees did not show up till the minute we finished our first course, which was perfect. As a former server who did this part badly, I appreciated this. Thank you, Louisa.
We finished with an after dinner drink, and my wife has found a newfound appreciation for dirty vodka martinis. I ordered a scotch Old Fashioned. It came with orange peel, but it did not come with the cherry. This is probably my fault, as I ordered it neat.
All in all, a very solid experience from a steakhouse that honestly wants to cook good food, and not just put butts in chairs. A truly...
Read moreI am SUPER impressed! I haven’t had a steak or service this good in FOREVER! I’m a trucker and I eat out a lot! I pass through Cheyenne fairly regularly and I will be stopping in every chance I get! I enjoyed the Ahi Tuna appetizer, but I should’ve gotten it rare instead of medium rare. It was pinkish inside, which was good for me, but not ordering it rare was my rookie mistake. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Hand-cut Ribeye, medium rare, with brussel sprouts! I wish I had a whole other stomach so I could’ve eaten it all! OH, and they serve REAL butter with their amazing bread! I’m not sure what the bread is called technically, but I thought about going back over there and asking if I can buy a loaf 🤣! Also, it was very refreshing to find an establishment that serves actual butter and not margarine! That is just wonderful and greatly appreciated to me! My ribeye was perfectly cooked and perfectly tender and perfectly seasoned! I love the blackened edges that are an added bonus from a steak being grilled! The seasoning was perfect; not too salty and not bland either! I also enjoyed the Tommyknocker Blood Orange, American IPA out of Idaho Springs, CO! Cornell was a great server. The place was pretty empty, except for the bar, when I got there but by the time I left (5:30pm-ish) the dining room was getting packed and almost at capacity and that’s always a good sign! Cornell did a great job with taking a six (maybe 7) top with other tables, as well as checking on me! I forgot to get the sweet young ladies name who stopped and spoke to me! She also cleared a bowl and got me a box when Cornell got busy! I love to see teamwork and the employees seemed to have great attitudes and enjoy working here! That’s a huge plus for me to see! Next time, I’m going to try the walleye per her advice! The hand cut ribeye and the walleye were my top two choices but I really wanted red meat and I’m glad I went with the ribeye! The MOD was very nice as well! She checked on me, cleared a plate, and thanked me for my kind words, and wished me well. She also said she hoped to see me again and I didn’t sound like she was putting on a show! Love it!! You will definitely see me again! Keep up the teamwork! I’ve been a waitress my whole life until I became a trucker 3 years ago, and I truly enjoyed the teamwork ethic you all displayed! We just don’t find that as often as we used to!...
Read moreOur visit started out amazing. They were definitely slammed and it was almost magical to watch how well they all worked together to keep things moving. We received our crab cakes (3) per order - in a timely manner, absolutely delicious, perfect hollandaise sauce 👍 Our salads came out as we were each finishing a crab cake. The ranch dressing is delicious, tastes home made! We also received fresh baked French bread, which was the bread of the night according to our waitress. That too was absolutely amazing. Thats when the night took a turn. Our visit was on the last day of Frontier Days, and the wait for our main course started…. And continued.
All of the staff were extremely attentive, and finally a staff member got the manager to look into the issue. The Manager visited our table after about 7 minutes and informed us that our server waited until we were done eating our crab cakes to submit our main course order. During that time lapse the restaurant had several large parties come in, and our order ended up being put after their main orders.
She apologized, and most definitely made it beyond right, considering how absolutely delicious our main courses were! I ordered the Black & Bleu Prime Rib, Medium, with Brussels sprouts and an added side of sweet potato fries. My husband ordered the Blackened Prime Rib, with Oscar topping, and sautéed onions and mushrooms. We were both in absolute heaven! In all honesty the prime rib was worth every minute of that wait, but to top it all off our meal was reduced 50% and we were given a piece of cake, (I think it was called explosion cake? so delicious!)
We made sure we tipped well even though the mistake was made because we value servers and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit. We will be back! Also, being from Texas, we know our beef…. I’d pick this meal every single day of my life if I could!
Also, the hubs had a Pina Colada, which he raved about as...
