The food here is always good, so you can count on that. There is a Special every night, which rotates from day to day. (The Specials remain consistent: Monday, e.g. is always Prime Rib night, etc.) The atmosphere is "cozy", the lighting a bit subdued, and there are booths and tables and "high tables". The place is not large, but not tiny. The one "negative" is that it seems to be too crowded whenever we try to go there. There may be a wait for a table, but maybe that is not the case these days with covid around still. The parking lot always has cars, but it can be deceiving -- you might think it is too crowded to get a seat, when actually, there are a few tables available. The service is usually good, but you may not know if any waitstaff saw you sit down -- since it is self-seating. (That would be one thing that could be improved.)
We came in (at about 6:30) for the Prime Rib Special -- but they had sold out. It seems like you have to get in early in order to get the Special. The salmon dinner, however, was excellent. I would get it again. Special shout-out for the broccolli! It was roasted, I believe -- at least it seemed roasted. It was great! (I know that it may seem weird to go on about broccolli, but it really was special.) But my wife was a bit disappointed in the Chicken Parmesan because it did not have a bread-crumb coating over the chicken patty (as Chicken Parmesan is supposed to, I guess). It tasted OK, but she felt that it was not the real thing. The mushroom soup, however, was fantastic. It was the first time we'd ever seen it (special, on the board), and hopefully it will remain as a staple. It was very mushroom-y and could very well be an award-winner (If you ever get the chance, go visit Kennett Square, PA -- the Mushroom Capital of the World -- during Mushroom Fest, when about 50 or 60 restaurants and individuals compete for best mushroom soup. Sand Bar's soup would be very competitive.)
The food prices are moderate -- I think the prices have increased over the years. But, I would say that the food is probably appropriately priced. It is not your typical "bar food". The on-tap beers/ciders are listed on a board, and they change (daily?, weekly?) -- but, they do not have a large selection of on-tap. That could be an area of improvement -- but, probably is limited due to cost reasons. Sometimes there is an unusual beer or cider. It would be great if they would focus on getting a variety of local beers/ciders on tap and ignore the typical big-sellers in favor of promoting the locals.
Overall, this is a really good place, consistent in quality, good atmosphere, probably the best small bar/restaurant in the...
Read moreJune 17th 2017 we went into the Sanbar and Grill, for our very first time. Newer to the area we decided to try here. I don't foresee us going back. It wasn't bar time it was dinner time we went. It was very busy, but why wouldn't it be? People love eating at restaurants! So we ordered a VERY SIMPLE meal.... she had a panini I don't recall if it was chicken, or turkey... but do know she ordered it with out tomatoes, and also a cup of soup. I believe loaded potato. Pretty simple meal right? Well not that simple for the staff. The soup didn't ever come to the table... doesn't make sense. Then the panini had tomatoes on it! I saw server write no tomatoes on the ticket. And soup on it as well. Then I ordered a Black and Blue burger "medium" damn I was looking forward to the juicy and moist bite of my burger. But welllllllll I work in food too, as we sat there talking for 40 minutes waiting for our food as we believe the owner went to many tables and had smiling conversations with patrons.... and our server didn't bring the soup, and our food was being prepared incorrectly, I said to my fiancé, "I bet my burger will be well done, and cold.." well it was warm and waaaaaaay past medium! Our server came back to table after taking the panini and simply took of the tomatoes, there was still tomatoes seeds n juice all over the lettuce! NOT COOL!! Make a new one!!!!! Then I had cut my dry well done burger in half to show her it wasn't right. No red, no juiciness, anyway. As I told her "your cooks suck", two items on one order wrong..... not her drink though that was correct and she liked it! So to end this. The owner didn't come talk to us, we weren't rude I guess he doesn't talk to unhappy patrons nor does his wife, Cus they were sure running around and helping other people and sitting with them often. He sure looked at us a lot and I hoped I would be able to tell him about this. So after an hour there all together we left more hungry than we can in, and went to another LOCALLY OWNED place and wow what a great experience, sorry sandbar owners and staff, we had a bad time there! We didn't even eat!! Thanks for allowing us to know not to come back, oh and thank the bartender for being the only one who did their...
Read moreMy fiance and I went to this restaurant June 17th 2017 for an early fathers day meal. We had a busy day and were really looking forward to a good meal. First off our waitress comes to take our drink orders and while she was doing so she rubbed her leg on my fiance' s leg a few times and smiling while doing so. She was very quick to refill his not even half gone soda while my water stayed empty until I had to wait for about 15 min and asked finally. When she refilled my water I also ordered a drink from the bar. It was a good drink but did have to wait for almost 10 min for my new water and drink. I had ordered a turkey club panini with no tomato and a cup of soup. He ordered a black and blue burger medium. After around 45 min of waiting and this waitress clearly flirting with my fiance we finally get our food. I never got my soup and my sandwich was covered with tomato after this was pointed out she grabbed my plate said she would fix it and simply went to the back and picked the tomatoes off of it. To me that's nasty. Servers touch money people and Lord knows what else so to just finger thru someone's food is not ok. And if someone per say has an allergy to tomatoes just picking them off could still cause them to have a reaction since the juice and seeds are still on the food. My fiance burger was way over done and almost burnt. We could see the owner laughing while talking to our server while explaining to her how to take the food off our bill. He never once attempted to come talk to us or apologize. So we paid for our drinks and left and went somewhere else that our food was done exactly right and we only had to wait maybe 15 min...
