Originally opened in 1954 this little retro diner in tiny Yermo is famous to us Southern Californians because it is halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Growing up in San Diego I would also pass this same area as I took the I-15 all the way to Vegas. After this stop it’s about another 90 minutes to 2 hours to Las Vegas so it’s a perfect place to stop during your journey. As the name suggests it’s a classic retro diner specializing in Americana and 1950s aesthetic. I love how local and down home it feels inside and you can tell the place is filled with locals and travelers as well. The entire staff was extremely friendly and stepping inside looks as if you are in a movie revolving around a small town diner. Inside is quite large there are tons of seating options from tables, to booths, to counter seating. There’s also a ton of parking out front so you’ll never have an issue finding a space. Also, in the back is a small outdoor stage and walking garden with fountains, trees, turtles, and metal statues. It would be especially fun to see for kids and is a small version of the Cabazon dinosaurs.
I am happy to report that the food here is also really good. As always, I started with a cup of coffee and this blend was a medium roast and very strong, which is my favorite type. For my entrée I chose the Chicken Fried Steak and honestly it was one of the better ones that I’ve had in a while. The steak was extra tender and packed with flavor, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The hashbrowns were a little bit too overdone in my opinion, but overall, I thought it was a great dish and I really enjoyed all of it.
I would say this is a must stop if you are in or near the Yermo area and would be a great place to plan for a midway pitstop if you are traveling between Los Angeles...
Read moreVery neat place when you see it you’ll want to come here! Let me share our experience.
Came in and was asked how many in our party. We said 3, right before we went to a table my Dad felt nostalgic and wanted to sit at the bar. There was a couple there and many other empty seats. She said we could sit then when we go to sit again asks how many in our party. I repeated 3, then she changes her tune and says she saves the bar for singles. When I say I thought about this and the couple sitting there. So I asked the waitress about it. She seemed caught off guard and told me they keep it two or less. Seemed like an answer to cover themselves but also I got two conflicting answers. Meanwhile I was told it was a slow night and it was, the bar was very vacant. This rubbed us a certain way and started the experience.
Our server was very nice and polite, we did have to ask a couple times for things when they were forgotten. I ordered fried chicken and knew it was made to order and would be a while. I said that’s fine, after she called it in I heard an employee walk by and say the cook said they won’t do it. She then told me they ran out. Again, seemed like a cover. Wasn’t her but she was out in these positions. There was also another young girl here who was nice.
Cornbread was not flavorful at all, meatloaf was burnt and had gravy on it even after I had shared with the waitress I do not like gravy. Green beans had no seasoning or even salt, straight from the can. Baked potato was good. Since things weren’t very good we opted out for dessert. We were wanting to try it since it was homemade.
There is room for some improvements and how to manage things here for sure. Wouldn’t go out of my way to come here but if you are on highway 15 and have to eat stop here it may be a...

Absolutely ruined our meal and time there... 1.Made a Huge Deal about the table being Rude and Loud Embarrassed us in front of other Customers 3.Sat us at a table that we couldn't see out Vehicle and Rv Sat us at a table that was Ten Times more broken We couldn't even enjoy our meal and had to get it to go!
