We just Love Flo's Hotdogs! We are from Bristol, CT and we come up a few times thru out the year to spend time in Ocean Park Maine. As we truck along RT 1, we always make it a point to stop at Flo's and grab some Deeeeelicious Hotdogs. I never in a million years would ever have thought to put Mayo & Celery Salt on my Dog, but with the advice of the owners daughter, I gave it a try, only on 1 condition...that she take a picture with Me, and she gladly did! So on her advice I tried the "Flo's Famous Dog", and that entails a Steamed Hotdog with Flo's Secret Relish , Mayo, Onions & Celery Salt.... I'm Hooked!!! I ate 2 of them out in her parking lot, with my husband, who will only eat his with Ketchup! Ketchup isn't generally permitted, unless your under 15 years old, but he lies and tells them he needs 2 dogs with Ketchup for the 2 kids in the Truck! After eatting our Hotdogs as Flo would recommend , we had to go in and get 4 more to go! Back home in CT, when we are craving Hotdogs we go to a Hotdog joint in New Britain called "Capital Lunch" and they are known for their "Secret Family Meat Sauce" recipe.... But while in Maine, We will always come to Flo's!!! And as truth has it, you must know the "Rules of Ordering"!! Make sure you read the sign, you'll understand...They pull No punches, and We Love that!!! The Flo's Relish is something I can't even try to explain, so I wont, other than I'm hooked, beyond words!!! I had to buy 3 jars to bring home to Connecticut!!! Keep servin em up at Flo's, leave the light on, we'll certainly ALWAYS BE...
Read moreFlo's Hot Dogs and I were both born in 1959, the same year that my parents began taking me there. Therefore, no one can claim to have been a customer of Flo's for a longer time than I. Some possibly just as long, but certainly none longer.
My extended family has a special connection to Flo's also, the many trips there together making for some very fond memories.
One quick example, which has attained almost legendary status in my family, is the time that my Great Aunt Mary, (this barely 5-foot-tall, maybe 100-lb. French Canadian woman with a famously enormous appetite) ate 14 loaded Flo's Dogs in 1 sitting! 1 sitting!
And I was there, about 11 years old, sitting right next to her. I saw her eat them. All 14 of 'em!
It seemed like my Dad was constantly getting up from the picnic table to buy her more hot dogs... and then more... then a couple more... and another one... incredible!
I love this place, and I have referred many hundreds of people here over the years. And they all love it, and they aIl have referred countless more here.
I feel honored to be a part, however small and insignificant, of the history of this great...
Read moreWe heard there was a popular hot dog stand that was worth trying out on Route 1, so after a day in Perkins Cove, my husband and I made it to Flo's with 15 minutes to spare before they closed. They steam their hot dogs, and I'm definitely a fan of the cooking style. It was a very simple, no frills menu, and I definitely like when a spot chooses to do only one thing and do it well. We're spoiled by the hot dogs we have locally made in CT, so we didn't feel that the hot dogs themselves surpassed what we're used to. However, we did really like the Flo's House Dog with their homemade relish, mayo, and celery salt for toppings. I'm sure this place holds a lot of nostalgia for many in the area. I was really surprised to see there wasn't any outdoor seating, not even a picnic table, so we just ate with our car does open since we were literally handed the hot dogs in a napkin. Glad we tried it, but wouldn't...
