Special circumstances had us arriving about 15 minutes before you closed. We walked in and people were still dining. It took a few minutes to be greeted, 2 employees were sitting on their phones. In the room in front of us.
Either you’re open or you’re closed, am I wrong? The waitress made a big deal about it being 7:50, she checked with the kitchen, to make sure they were still open. We heard a cook in the kitchen as he announced there was an 2 top sitting down and that we promised to be quick. Which we didn’t promise-when she came back out of the kitchen, she took our order in the lobby, told us to be quick and then the manager came out of nowhere and sat us.
While the waitress was still holding our plates, she was about to put them down and she asked if she could bring us the check. She told us the manager wanted to get her paperwork done.
She never checked on us!
7:45 is not ideal when you close at 8, I do know this. We paid the check, immediately because we were asked to. We ate our dinner quickly.
I’m under the impression that most service staff pretend like it’s no big deal when guests walk in close to closing time, probably because that’s the job and you’re still open. We were back in the car by 8:22.
In retrospect, we should have just left-what paying customer wants to be treated like dirt?!? Our server was rude and tactless. She acted like we were being rude for dining in an open restaurant. She was the rude one, not us. If you can’t accommodate what’s promised, then change the hours, or the staff.
We spent way too much money for this type of treatment.
My Dad was in town quickly, I was hoping to spend a little time with him and have something nice to eat.
My Dad asked her if she had kids at home and if that was why she was rushing us-in order to get home to them. She said “no!” the manager wants to get her paperwork done early. It’s probably true, and that’s fine. Why would you tell that to people sitting at your table? Exactly, to make them feel bad! Why would you make people feel bad when you work on tips?
The sign on the door should have said after 7, go somewhere else.
Returning seems unlikely. The whole thing was uncomfortable and embarrassing for us.
The waitress was basically complaining-she told us who was still in the restaurant including the bartender’s boyfriend. It felt like she was informing us we should not have come in so late. Why on earth would she tell us that. It was another way for her to inform us the open sign was wrong and we were not welcome.
I wrote her a note on the credit card slip with way more tip than she deserved. She approached me on the way out to say she wasn’t complaining.
If she hadn’t approached me, I would not be writing this review. We would have rather she checked on us and our dinners, then chasing us out the door because in her opinion we were wrong.
Who treats people like they’re an inconvenience and then stops them to argue about it after they’ve written a note to let you know they picked up on it too. If I had wanted to discuss it, then I wouldn’t have written a note, I would have said something. that’s basic logic and the fact that the waitress didn’t understand that is not surprising, but it is odd behavior-consistent with being rude and selfish, I guess.
This obviously was a giant waste of time for all of us. We made a giant mistake about where we went to dinner but thanks to our waitress-we will never make that...
Read moreThe York River Landing in York, Maine for a pint & a couple flights of some amazing stouts & other styles. I have been here multiple times in the past few years for some great beer including a couple Hill Farmstead pours a couple years ago. The tap list is always awesome with a good amount of excellent selections & this time was no different. The food here is great as well, with excellent chicken tendies & awesome burgers, but I come here for the phenomenal craft beer menu. Luckily enough they do flights, because I got a couple flights of beer that averaged 11%ABV. 🍻💪🍔
I started off with a light beer & grabbed a pint of the STS PILS Kellerbier from Russian River Brewing Company which was really good for a light beer before I went to the darkside. I'll go over my favorite five beers from the flights so I'm not here all day. The three STAY PUFF variants from Barreled Souls Brewing Company I had were the winners here. I had the PEANUT BUTTER WILLET BOURBON BA STAY PUFF (2024), the SALTED CARAMEL STAY PUFF (2024) & the WILLET BOURBON BARREL AGED STAY PUFF (2020). All of these were great, but the WILLET BOURBON BARREL AGED STAY PUFF (2020) was the winner, aging perfectly over five years. This next taster the RUM RAISIN HONEY POT (2023) Wheat Wine from Barreled Souls Brewing Company was on another level & my first introduction to this style. At a wild 16.3% ABV this was insanely smooth & dangerous. The last taster was something a little lighter so I could walk out of the place semi coherent in the CITRA FLASH MOB IPA from Russian River Brewing Company. It was a good IPA, but didn't blow me away or anything. 🍻🍻🔥
All the different seating options here with tables, high tops & bar. Great service, the girl behind the bar had been here for years & spoke highly of the business which is always great to hear. Again great food with something for everybody, even though I'm a simple man that likes burgers & tendies I was very tempted to step it up after looking at the delicious menu. If you like a great rotating tap selection I HIGHLY suggest checking out this hidden gem beer wise, you will not be disappointed! 🍻🍻🍺🔥☘

Read moreAfter following YRL on instagram for some time, i finally decided to check them out & what better day to try than Tuesday's for $1 oyster night?! Bartender Tonya was the best service I've experienced in awhile, live music was amazing to say the least & although the oysters took a little bit cause they were very busy- they were well worth the wait! They were the hugest oysters I've ever seen & I loved YRL's take on mignonette sauce. I ordered a lobster roll & my friend ordered the fried chicken... The lobster was fresh & I added some tomato & bacon for flavor. Chicken was juicy and not overly fried- mashed potatoes was a little too big of a serving but they were delicious! The biscuit was my favorite... wow! YRL is a gem & I'll definitely be making the hour drive again just for the service & delicious food. I wish I had gotten to talk to Tonya more about the history of the restaurant & get to know more about what else they do as specials during the week and summer but there was a gentleman who was obviously a usual who showed up as I was enjoying my oysters... And received Tonya's attention the rest of the night... It was a little annoying when my friend and I were sharing our dishes & trying to finish them since its an hour back to our town- and the guy's gawking at us saying how our dish is two pounds & it's 3 meals for him & how a lady should just be eating a salad and chowder....... And then the guy's discussing mug club with Tonya to see if he payed for his mug... she takes out the sheet and says yes! You're all paid & mentions how those who didn't pay- got kicked off for the people on the wait list. And the guy literally asked her to show him who didn't pay... and she actually showed him... his response, "oh, just randoms. Not your loyal customers..." Alright, check please, dear! Food was perfect & service was outstanding but it sucks how the entire mood changed when the entitled mug club member showed up. I'm glad I loved the food so much cause his attitude was more than enough to make me not wanna come back!! One last thing- I highly respect how the executive chef's name is printed on the menu- as it should be. He knows what he's doing! I'll be back YRL- I'll just stay clear of the usuals... Us newbies who drive an hour one way would like some...
