The Cub Cafe — Restaurant in Youngstown

I didn’t have a problem with the staff here. I like most of them but o did quit because me a the owner did not see eye to eye. But on my end there was no hard feelings it just was not meant. I still visit to see friends and get coffee and remain polite even when the managers (Becca) would stare at me weird or be rude. I just found it odd that she acted like that when I did nothing to her. Maybe she get paid extra for the animosity. Which I don’t pay much attention to. I stop in every here and there to say hi to a friend. Today I grabbed coffee with my best friend. She wanted a cup of ice. I used to work here so I know the ice machine is moldy Because I’ve made several complaints and have not served ice one day because of it. I told her to check if there is mold she didn’t say anything, but I could tell she noticed. I told her it’s not her fault because no one told you to clean it. I just told her just to let her boss know and to simply teach her how to clean it. I didn’t make a big deal of it. He later comes out while I’m doing my hw and yells at me to leave. I told him I’m confused on what I did wrong and that I’m a paying customer. He proceeds to tell me to leave. Long story short they don’t like when you point out their flaws. MOLD! I remember one time in the past the I was learning to bartend at the blind bear, They told me to put 1 ounce of liquor in a cocktail. I thought 1.5 ounce with standard( It even said it on the recipe sheet, but they crossed it out with a pen and put one) so I politely asked about it because what do I know I’m new. They got offensive about it and said nobody even notice the ounce there were a couple drinks in. The culture is not great if u don’t blindly follow. It’s honestly sad because I use to like working there and I didn’t believe the stories of how they can be. By the way, this is the same owner that owns Barry dingles ,the blind bear , And WEST 34! There has also been a lot of questions with SOME management. (Not all) but all I’m a say is he started to date his gf when she was 18 I heard. There is also so much other weird things that’s happened but I’m done. Read at your own discretion. To be honest I always told people the food was great even after I stopped working here. Stopped by this morning for brunch and the food was SO GOOD. They have recently updated the menu. I got the pulled pork biscuit and my husband got the breakfast bowl with egg, potatoes, ham and hollandaise sauce. Delish. It was also reasonably priced and serves Branch Street coffee which if ya know, ya know (10/10), simple drink menu but that is how you know it will be quality. The atmosphere is clean, bright and open. The music was neutral, very coffee house vibes. The barista was super friendly and answered all of our questions. Since it is also very close to Millcreek park, it is in a perfect location if you wanted to grab a coffee and go for a hike (recommend gorge trail or lake cohasset loop) or stop by for lunch on the weekend.

I’m also excited to see what this plaza turns into with renovations next store for a restaurant/bar.

As a returning local (moved back from Columbus), I have missed the quality of bigger city food spots and this place is as close as it gets in the area for quality, atmosphere, and concept. Please support small business and ditch the chain restaurants so these folks...

I have avoided leaving this review because I don't like to be negative. But people NEED to be warned. There is a clique here that ostracizes anyone they don't agree with for whatever reason. The barista Maddy THROWS AWAY CUSTOMER RECEIPTS WHEN THEY ASK FOR THEM because she overcharges and doesn't want it proven. She has crumpled them in our faces and said "We don't give receipts to cash customers." THAT'S ILLEGAL.

I also was a vendor there. I had TWENTY products go missing, was ignored for THREE months when trying to get my payment. Then they said they couldn't prove that things were taken and so they will not pay me.

I am reporting to the BBB and to you, Google maps. DO NOT go here, the vibe is atrocious.
