Nolan's Restaurant at Illinois Beach Hotel — Restaurant in Zion

This review hurts to give…my family and I used to come here every year for Easter brunch and adored it. Life changes and we stopped going for a few years, but today we decided it was time to revisit a beloved family tradition. I’m not sure when things changed but, wow, has it gone down hill.

They used to have beautiful ice sculptures, fat shrimp cocktails, huge chocolate covered strawberries, waiters bustling around refilling your mimosas, and a lovely Easter egg hunt afterwards. Today we were shocked to see none of that.

We paid $60 each for a mediocre omelette, honey dew melon, cold bagels, and a gristley steak. They only had two waiters working who seemed to have little training (no fault of their own). Many of us drove 2+ hours for this holiday meal, only for it to be a complete waste of time and money. Not to mention there were only a few other people dining in the room making the vibe quiet and awkward.

If you want to scale back your brunch offerings, that’s fine, but don’t charge for a high end service. You need to appropriately staff your service, and if the room is quiet and stiff, play some music or something. The only reason I’d return is for the lovely view of Lake...

So much potential. Only one server who doubled as a bar tender on a Friday night during summer. Out of stock of the drink I ordered. They didn't have the shrimp that was offered on the menu, only coconut shrimp. So I ordered a burger, cooked medium. It was burnt to a crisp. No one received refills even though we were there for 2 hours. Nothing seemed to be working including the printer that prints your check so you can finally escape to get something to drink. I had a wonderful experience at Nolan's. It was t a pretty lake day to take advantage of the view but everything else was great. They were short handed and the hostess or manager was waitressing, bussing tables and who knows what else. She did an. excellent job. We ordered the fish a d chips.
