I was craving Sichuan Tan Tan noodles and spices, so I decided to try Mama Hot Pot instead of booking a ticket to Chengdu, China. 😂
I had their Mushroom and Sichuan flavored broth, they were good. The mushroom broth was a bit light, the Sichuan broth was spicy enough to get a cough if oil accidentally goes down the wrong pipe - pace yourself. Their meats were sliced extremely thin, I enjoyed all of their beef cuts since they were all tender. Good variety of sauces to mix, there were salads, toppoki, chicken feet and fried appetizers.
An area to improve is to may be refrigerate the veggies, or soak them in water to freshen them up, since they were all wilted when served. Change out the food from lunch to dinner so that it’s fresher for the dinner crowds, I felt like some food and desserts were left out since morning/lunch, instead of being fresh at 6pm.
I got there early evening so it wasn’t busy, which was nice, the staff were very efficient and the services were good. 10% off for a google review, 279k and a full belly, yay! I’m glad I came here, it made me rethink about how much spices I can handle, Chengdu will...
Read moreThe food quality was good, and for a fairly good price. The service was something to be desired.
We walked through how to order off the list. Marked off our food items and ordered 2 Tiger beers. Bases came out quickly, with the food items following shortly. Our server forgot our beer but was able to flag him down to get them. No big deal.
When it was time to pay, I attempted to provide a credit card. I was informed they didn't take card, but I could pay via a QR transfer code. After scanning the code, I realized I'd need a VN bank account, which, as a tourist, I would not be able to do. That's fine - I had cash and paid the bill. Counted it out and handed it to the server.
My issue came from the server obviously mocking the interaction in plain view of me. Each time I looked up, I could see this happening, and the two staff members were staring at us and pausing, only to resume when I looked away.
This place is fine if you want decent hotpot for a good price, but make sure you have cash and possibly expect to be mocked if you're...
Read moreCame to this place based on good reviews by the locals...not as expected. The restaurant was at 30% capacity around 17:00, but we still had to wait for almost 15 minutes.
Dipping sauce selection was limited, compared to other hot pot restaurants.
Brought out a plate of combo meat and seafood and another plate of combo vegetables that we did not order. But the staff indicated that everyone gets that. What if I did not like your meat or vegetables selection???
Shrimp, squid, and other seafood selection was tiny...I mean baby sizes.
Meat was very thinly sliced. Basically had to get 5 pieces of beef to taste the beef.
They ran out of seafood paste ball and other beef items. One staff even told us that the beef brisket can be ordered once. Huh? Is this not a buffet? So had to order the beef brisket from another staff.
Soda is complimentary, but not water? Is water cheaper than soda? Guess not.
At the end, comparing yourself to a Taiwanese hot pot restaurant in Taiwan is a joke. I would say the...
