It's a fantastic choice for western food in Da Nang. The staff were very friendly and they did their best to give good service. We were 4 people and the food was good overall. The staff did a fantastic job and they offered some extra treet since we were celebrating a birthday.
My dish was pasta ( paccheri ) amatriciana. I think the chef might be Italian but honestly I was a bit disappointed with the amatriciana since it was very sweet and it was basically pasta with some pancetta ( not guanciale ) and mixed with onions and some tomato.
Amatriciana is supposed to be a tomato sauce. ( Not an onion mixture with some pieces of tomato ) Onions are not common in this dish in Italy but it do exist, however it's never sweet like mine was. The sauteed onions can be nice but it took over and the sweetness was too sharp. You can see the picture of my dish and compare to any other picture of a plate of amatriciana online and you can understand what I mean.
Every other dish we had was very good and the kitchen did a wonderful job. It might be advisable to write on the menu that the shrimp pasta has shrimp tartar ( raw shrimp ). Beef carpaccio very good as well as the octopus.
I know restaurants want to earn money ( I've worked in a kitchen since 16 years back ) but when I asked for "normal water" or still water from a machine they said they serve water from bottles ( which obviously are more expensive ). We finished 3 bottles which were 60K each. At the end of our dinner however they served us free water without us asking for it from a jug so not sure why I couldn't get this free water from the start ?
Just small things I personally think can improve or be more clear but overall a wonderful experience and it's a very good choice to come here...
Read moreOk, this’s a long one. We had a veg salad, a scallop risotto, and, wait for this… a Kontum ‘stinky’ crab spaghetti, pairing with a rose wine bottle and a lively, slightly sparkling beautiful red bottle. The salad was truly exceptional. When was the last time someone, any one could make a salad exceptional? I couldn’t recall. The scallop risotto was absolutely stunning, I don’t have words to do it justified. “It must be a regular Best-Seller on the menu, right”? Wrong, the Chef explained that he had it on the menu here for the first time. He changes the menu daily. That’s just crazy! If you happen to see it on the menu again, jump right on it! The Kontum crab spaghetti was what “sealed the deal” for me. It wasn’t the most delicious dish_ that title went to the risotto. ‘Stinky’ crab was a little known delicacy of minority highlanders in nearby Kontum, very obscured because of ethno-geographic reasons and its well …, ‘stinky’ smell. Even I only heard of it but never have tried before. To combine that to an asian dish was tough enough, let alone a western one but it came out really cool. You still need to work on the smell a little bit though to enjoy it. So like durian or certain cheeses, I doubt it will be a regular item for everyone. But I had so much fun tasting it and will recommend it to any adventurous foodies out there. And that added a really nice touch to what I really love here overall. Not only he’s so talented and serious in his work, but he’s also very daring, very fun in his creativity, and everything came out in high standard. You’ll see it everywhere from the first greetings when you step into this place. Next time if you’re in Da Nang, give yourself a treat here. Oh, and the red bottle was ‘La...
Read moreI had an amazing experience here! The complimentary bread course was elaborate and fantastic. The fish ball has a perfect crispy coating and mild, meaty fish inside. I also loved the shaved carrot pickles. The butter itself was special, spiced with with an exciting mix flavors.
The bruschetta was okay. it looked beautiful and the flavors were nice--the smoky eggplant especially--but I didn't feel like i was eating anything special. I wish it had more of a bite to it or another savory element. The bread was more like whole grain toast than bruschetta. Still yummy but wouldn't get again.
The barracuda catch of the day was fantastic. Some tart salty crumbly topping. The sauce was like a pumpkin symphony with an impossibly savory flavor. The pumpkin puree had a pleasant muted flavor that balanced out the fish perfectly.
The bill came with a chocolate popsicle with marzipan inside. So cute!
Throughout the meal, service was also impeccable - above and beyond what I would expect from even a fine dining restaurant. For example, when I left half of the bruschetta on my plate and told them I got too full, the waitress said she would wait 15 min until putting in the next dish so I would have time to digest. After my meal, the hostess actually walked me out and we chatted about travels and the restaurant. She showed me a safe spot to wait for my grab. While I was waiting, someone brought me bug spray. Then the chef came out to greet me and we chatted for a few minutes! The staff was so kind and attentive. Importantly, I never felt out of place for dining alone. Would highly recommend this restaurant for a pleasant experience...
