Tucked away on the northeastern coast of Da Nang, Sơn Trà Marina is a breathtaking hidden gem that offers an immersive blend of nature, coastal charm, and architectural elegance. Often described as Da Nang’s “little Santorini,” this romantic seaside destination is a must-visit for travelers, photographers, couples, and anyone seeking tranquility with a stunning ocean backdrop.
Location & Accessibility
Sơn Trà Marina is located on the Sơn Trà Peninsula, about a 25-minute drive from Da Nang’s city center. The journey itself is a visual treat, winding through lush green hills with glimpses of the sea, monkeys darting across the road, and panoramic views that make frequent stops inevitable.
While the final approach includes some narrow and winding roads, they are well-maintained and navigable by motorbike or car. There is also a designated parking area near the marina.

Scenic Beauty & Design
The most striking aspect of Sơn Trà Marina is its coastal European-inspired aesthetic. The white-and-blue architecture resembles a Mediterranean village, with domed rooftops, classic railings, archways, and staircases that cascade down toward the water. Every corner feels like it was designed for photographs — from the pristine chapel-style structures to the ornate street lamps and white fences.
The marina overlooks the turquoise bay, framed by distant fishing boats, the imposing Lady Buddha statue to the left, and a dramatic view of Da Nang’s skyline on the horizon. At sunset, the entire area glows in warm golden tones, casting reflections over the sea and bathing the white buildings in soft amber light — perfect for golden-hour photography.

Things to Do • Photography: Arguably the top reason most people visit. Instagrammable spots are everywhere — couples often come here for pre-wedding shoots, and influencers for content. • Chapel Viewpoint: A picturesque white chapel-like structure sits at the heart of the marina. Though it doesn’t function as a religious space, its design is symbolic of a coastal European church, making it a popular romantic landmark. • Ocean Walks & Relaxation: Walking down the marina’s jetty offers a calming sea breeze and unfiltered views of Da Nang’s coastline. • Drone Flying & Videography: The open space, elevation, and lack of high-rise buildings make it ideal for drone shots. • Food & Drinks: Although there’s no large café or restaurant within the marina complex itself, food vendors are often nearby. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own snacks or enjoy a picnic while taking in the views.
⸻
Best Time to Visit • Morning (6 AM – 8 AM): You’ll catch the peaceful dawn atmosphere, soft light, and fewer tourists. • Late Afternoon (4 PM – Sunset): The golden hour casts a dreamy hue over the landscape, making this the most photogenic time to visit. • Avoid Midday: It can get very hot with limited shaded areas, so it’s not ideal for walking or photography.
⸻
Tips for Visitors • Dress Comfortably: The area involves a fair amount of walking and some stairs, so wear comfortable shoes. • Bring Sun Protection: Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are essential — shade is minimal. • Be Respectful of Shoots: Many couples and content creators are here for photo shoots. Be mindful and avoid interrupting or walking into frames. • Timing: Weekdays are quieter; weekends and holidays can get crowded, especially with locals and...
Read moreReview: Disappointing Breakfast at Sơn Trà Marina
We came to Sơn Trà Marina today for breakfast as a group of 10 with high hopes for a relaxing meal and nice ambiance. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of expectations.
What went wrong:
Upon arrival, the receptionist Khua told us there were no vacant inside tables, so we’d have to stay outdoors. He mentioned they would provide a fan, since it was very hot.
Once led outside, we were placed in the farthest, most isolated spot. The tables were small, separated, and obviously not suitable for a group of 10. We expected a big table so we could all sit together.
Despite our requests, the attendant Vhi insisted we sit separately “because of the table setup.” Only after some back-and-forth did she reluctantly let us push tables together.
Regarding the promised fan: first we were told it was fixed in the opposite area and couldn’t be moved; later we were told there was no extension cord.
I went back to reception and asked to be moved inside, pointing out there were empty tables. Khua told me those were “reserved,” even though we saw some were being offered to other guests. Again, we were told to remain outside and “they’ll provide the fan.”
In the end, frustrated and hungry, we just ordered. To our surprise, payment was required before food was served—even for seated tables.
The food itself was average for the price. Compared with other restaurants of similar calibre in Đà Nẵng, it’s overpriced. It feels like you are mostly paying for the location and ambiance rather than the food quality or service.
What matched others’ complaints: Looking at other reviews afterward, our issues seem common:
Service is often described as rigid, with staff insisting on rules rather than adapting to guest needs.
Prices are seen as too high compared to food quality.
Guests frequently mention being made to sit outside in uncomfortable heat while indoor seating is limited or reserved.
Management observation: Most of the staff here are young and enthusiastic, but the lack of flexibility and decision-making authority clearly affects the customer experience. The management should consider having a more senior staff member on duty who can make practical decisions, especially for group bookings, and ensure guests feel welcomed instead of dismissed.
Overall: The location and décor of Sơn Trà Marina are beautiful, but service, flexibility, and value for money need serious improvement. For us, this visit was more frustrating than enjoyable, and I cannot recommend it for groups or anyone looking for a...
Read moreWe visited Son Tra Marina hoping to enjoy the stunning views and take a few nice photos. The place definitely has a strong visual appeal, especially if you're into picturesque spots for Instagram or travel vlogs. The architecture is beautiful, with a European-style design that stands out against the natural coastal backdrop of Da Nang. From afar, it looks like a dreamy destination.
However, once you arrive, the experience doesn’t quite match the expectations. Before you can enter the area or take any photos, you’re required to purchase a drink. It’s not optional. This policy isn’t clearly advertised beforehand, so it felt a bit forced.. especially for travelers who just wanted to take a quick look or a few pictures. The entrance fee in the form of a mandatory drink purchase changes the tone of the visit right away.
The drinks were okay. Nothing extraordinary, but not terrible either. Definitely not worth the price when you factor in the actual reason most people come here...the view. It felt more like you’re paying for the ambiance than the service or product itself.
While the location is photogenic and might be worth a quick stop for some, we personally didn’t find it to be a place we’d go back to. The vibe felt overly curated and commercial, rather than welcoming or relaxing. There are so many other places in Da Nang and Son Tra where you can enjoy scenic views without being pressured to make a purchase just to enter.
Overall, Son Tra Marina is good for a one-time visit if you’re after pictures and don’t mind paying extra just to be there. But beyond the photos, there isn’t much else to experience. Aesthetically pleasing, yes ... but not somewhere we’d recommend...
