Wow! Just... WOW. After sampling over 20 restaurants in Da Nang, I can confidently say that Son Tra Retreat Garden Lounge & Eatery isn't just good, it's hands-down the best we've experienced. If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience, stop your search and head here immediately! The Journey & Ambiance: Our adventure began with a pleasant 10-minute stroll from Son Tra Marina – keep your eyes peeled, as we were even treated to the delightful sight of monkeys along the way! Stepping into the garden was like entering a different world. It's an utterly beautiful and romantic oasis, with a wonderfully chilled-out vibe. Everything about the outdoor seating area felt cozy and thoughtfully designed, creating a truly magical atmosphere as evening settled in. The Stars of the Show - The Food & Drinks! Prepare for a culinary journey! The menu is impressively diverse, and we're already planning our return to explore more. Here’s what graced our table, each dish also a feast for the eyes: Grilled Oysters with Chorizo Sauce: As someone who usually prefers fresh oysters, these were a revelation! Cooked to perfection and that chorizo sauce was a delicious twist. Grilled Octopus with Homemade Spicy Sauce: Incredibly tender octopus, and the sauce had a fantastic kick without being overwhelmingly spicy. Truly delicious! Grouper Ceviche: Bursting with freshness and flavour – an absolute delight. Softshell Crab with Avocado Salsa: MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE! This was exceptional. Perfectly crispy crab paired beautifully with the fresh avocado salsa. A true standout. Fried Rice with Duck Confit, Pineapple & Herbs: This was good, but perhaps could have had a more intense duck flavour. A little suggestion to the chef: using duck fat in the cooking process could elevate it even further! Still a tasty dish, though. Desserts: Oh, the sweet endings! The Crème brûlée was cooked to absolute perfection with that essential crisp top. The Lava Cake with Ice Cream was divine – the ice cream was very tasty, and it had a wonderfully molten centre! Cocktails: The PS Tiamo cocktail was a stunning 10/10 – beautifully presented and utterly delicious. The Red Dragon cocktail also had a lovely presentation and started off tasty, but perhaps a little too much ice meant it became a bit watery quite quickly. Service & Value: The service was very polite and smiling. The staff were attentive, asking how each dish was, and everything (apart from the rice, which took a fraction longer) arrived impressively quickly. Now, let's talk about value. The atmosphere, the diverse menu, the service, the presentation, and of course, the price were all exceptional. I honestly cannot believe we paid under 1,500,000 VND for everything. To put it in perspective, in Europe, a meal of this quality and with this ambiance would easily cost three times as much. Incredible value for money! Final Thoughts: This place is a gem. The combination of the enchanting atmosphere, the beautifully presented and largely exceptional food, the attentive service, and the unbelievable prices makes Son Tra Retreat a must-visit for everyone in Da Nang. We've been to many, but this is the best. I highly recommend it! We will...
Read moreMy group of 7 and I stopped by for our last group dinner in Đà Nẵng. It was almost completely empty aside from another small group of foreigners sitting outside. Their prices are considered pricey for Đà Nẵng standards, but not terrible for American standards. They have a full bar with good drinks and mocktails, as well as western and Vietnamese food.
For starters my friend and I got the Chao tôm & Bo lá lôt as well as their Met Chá gio & Nem cua. Their Met Chá gio & Nem cua were our fav! Perfectly crisp, flavorful, and packed full of meat. Their Bo lá lôt was ok but the meat inside was a bit dry. For entrees we got their seared duck breast Úc Vit Nuóng Mat Ong and baby squid rice Cam gao lic và muc nuóng. Both were cooked perfectly, with reasonable portion and great flavor.
Our only gripe was that the duck didn’t come out until all of our friends were finished eating. Considering our table ordered 3 of the duck breast and only 2 came out, we’re not sure why it took almost another 40 minutes for the last order to come out, The drinks also took a while to come out - even with simple juices that they simply poured from a container into a glass.
Overall, a good dining experience and place to eat with friends as it’s very foreigner friendly (read mainly for foreigners, didn’t see any...
Read moreWOW. I found my new favorite dinner place. Here’s what I love: calm, modern but cozy atmosphere with chill soft music, rich greenery all around, warm lighting, a garden with nooks and seating that gives you privacy, string lights to give it all some extra magic, caring service that notices the details, and unique dishes that taste special, mixing spices and sauces and ingredients into colorful meals that aren’t overpowering but just taste delicious. If you like all those things too, this place is IT. ❤️
The first day we came here, I just sat outside for a bit before leaving, taking it in. We then came back the very next day with a friend, proudly showing off this gem we’d found.
We’ve had quite a few dishes and pretty much all the appetizers… I won’t name them, because truly — you can’t go wrong, just get what looks good to you and it WILL be great.
This place just makes me happy. I step into the atmosphere and it’s its own little world. When I imagine all the work the Son Tra Retreat team puts into making everything so wonderful, from the well-crafted menu to the flow of the dining experience, I’m so grateful. It’s not easy to create this sort of escape from the rush. So THANK YOU and I’ll be back soon! ❤️
P.S. I’m sorry I didn’t take better photos. Was too busy...
