A Whimsical Morning at Giao Mùa Coffee: Hanoi’s Enchanting Hobbit-Themed Café
Eager to explore Hanoi’s unique offerings, we made our way to Giao Mùa Coffee, a captivating Hobbit-themed café nestled in the heart of the city.
Located at 77 P. Lò Sũ, Lý Thái Tổ, Hoàn Kiếm, Giao Mùa Coffee is a hidden gem that transports visitors into a storybook setting reminiscent of the Shire. The café’s exterior, characterized by its whimsical architecture and lush greenery, immediately piqued our curiosity. Stepping inside, we were enveloped by a cozy ambiance, with rustic wooden interiors, curved doorways, and charming nooks that exude a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Spanning multiple floors, each level of Giao Mùa offers a distinct experience, from sunlit balconies overlooking Hanoi’s bustling streets to intimate corners perfect for quiet reflection. The attention to detail in the décor, combined with soft lighting and soothing music, creates an environment where time seems to slow down.
The menu, while modest, boasts a selection of delightful beverages. We indulged in traditional Vietnamese coffee, rich and aromatic, complemented by a slice of their renowned banana cake, a moist, flavorful treat that perfectly paired with our drinks. The staff were exceptionally friendly, offering recommendations and ensuring our comfort throughout our visit.
Giao Mùa Coffee is more than just a café; it’s an experience, a tranquil retreat that captures the imagination and offers a respite from the city’s hustle and bustle. Whether you’re a fan of Tolkien’s tales or simply seeking a unique spot to unwind, this enchanting café is a must-visit when in Hanoi.

Read moreAwful experience - my family was treated unfairly by the staff.
Our family of 7 lined up at 5 pm hoping to get coffees. We were told by the baristas that they stop serving at 5pm (though they stay open till 6) which is understandable, though I pleaded that we had only one day in Hanoi left and really wanted to try their coffe after seeing the hype on tiktok. They refused saying they are closed.
As we stood outside looking up a new coffee place, a group of 3 white/ European women went into the cafe, pleaded with them and were granted access and coffees. During this interaction my family kept looking in and eventually the staff/baristas came outside and asked if we wanted coffees too even though we were refused when we arrived and asked first. We conveyed how upset we were and that it is unfair to be treated this way.
Explain to me why we would be treated this way? We are an Indian family, with 2 members above the age of 60, Hanoi is hot and we were excited to be seated at the cafe. How could they refuse our entry and then allow the entry of 3 Caucasian women right after us?
We decided not to go in as we felt extremely disrespected at that point. They apologized and asked us to come in but we walked away. Really a shame as we were really excited, our family has travelled from the UK and this was one of our top coffee spots in Vietnam. A shame. Don’t want to jump and say it’s racism but hard to imagine it’s...
