On Sunday my wife and I went for an early Valentine's date to Sol Kitchen & Bar District 7 I heard great things so I had high expectations. Well, it surpassed any expectations I had, possibly the best meal I have had in Saigon.
First, let's start with the atmosphere. The tables overlooking a pool were beautiful, and the vibe was what I would call formal/comfortable. It was chill but also felt upscale. They had a great Vietnamese band playing also.
Next the team. . Amazing service by all the team members, special shout out to Michael who was super attentive and made the experience even better. But all the team were amazing, friendly, informative and helpful.
Now the FOOD....Starters were: yellow tail tuna, mushroom quesadillas and the chilli con carne.
The tuna was so fresh and delicious and went really well with the avocado.
The Chili was very good, with just enough heat, accompanied by great pico and guac! Loved the idea of Vietnamese rice crackers instead of tortilla chips.
Finally was the mushroom quesadilla. To call this a quesadilla is almost an insult, it was so much more. I love quesadillas but this was on its own level, so amazing. I cannot even describe it, but just try it! Loved the truffle aioli with it.
For mains, I had the Wagyu Carne Asada and Kathy had the Salmon Pasta. Oh and I also ordered the scallops, just because you always have to have scallops!
Let's start with the beautiful Wagyu, cooked perfectly and that great butter flavor you get from Wagyu. It came with tortillas and 6 sauces ranging from mild to spicy, I put all 6 on as they were all great. I highly recommend this dish.
For the Salmon Pasta, I normally am not a big salmon eater (except when it is raw, which I love), but Kathy could not finish her meal so I tried it, and I was floored. I finished it off. The salmon tasted amazing, the fresh pasta was perfect, the white wine sauce had so much flavor and it was all brought together by the dill which stood out perfectly. I can honestly say this was the first time I enjoyed salmon in a pasta dish (and Kathy orders it often, as she knows I won't steal it from her, except this time:-).
Now we saved the best for last, the scallops! I am from Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada, if you do not know it, you are missing the world's best shellfish! I know my scallops and I love scallops. Well, these floored me, by far the best I had had in Vietnam and possibly up there with any I had in PEI, I do not say that lightly! Cooked perfectly and that herb butter just brought out the flavors, I could have eaten those all night!
All in all one of the best experiences and meals I have had in Vietnam. Hats off to Chef Jay Ellis! I have no idea why I have not tried it before...I will be back soon and...
Read moreWent to Sol D7 for our 7th year anniversary with my partner. We had a lovely and memorable evening. Easily booked a reservation through their facebook page. They even had a small setup for our table, and a complimentary dessert for our celebration. Place feels like a beach resort, with good vibes and relaxing atmosphere; and even the bathroom was designed like that.
The staff was very friendly and professional. English speaking staff, so no worries about communication. They had qr codes for the wifi and menu but also offered physical copies of the food and drinks menu.
Ordered the following: Chicken empanada - packed with a lot of filling, crunchy outside, somewhat spicy, satisfying. Mushroom quesadilla - delicious and crispy, goes well with the truffle mayo dip Iberico pork ribs - well-marinated and succulent ribs. Pairs nicely with the salad, rice, and tortilla. You can make a tortilla, rib, salad roll for an excellent balance of flavours. The mexican rice was also a good pair to the ribs, very savoury. Good for 2 people. Garden salad - fresh and crisp greens. Comes with a rich and flavorful dressing. Didn't realize the iberico pork also came with a side salad, so this was a bit much already for us. It's still worth ordering if you fancy a salad. Molten lava cake - soft chocolate flour cake, filled with rich chocolate filling, paired with a delicious scoop of hazelnut ice cream. When you mix everything, it tastes like a Ferrero rocher chocolate. Really good, must try.
For drinks, we ordered the red sangria, white sangria, and mojito. All were good tasting, and you can feel the alcohol in the cocktails 😅 Happy hour is available from 5-7pm, and during weekend brunch time.
The vibe of the place is intimate, relaxing, and chill. Feels like you're at a beach resort for a quick getaway. Great music choices also. Mostly visited by couples when we went there. Around 6 other tables at the time.
Went here also for Sunday brunch. They also have varied brunch menu items. Tried the Smash burger and the Chicken chipotle wrap. Smash burger patty was very flavorful, buttery buns, paired with fries and truffle mayo dip. Chicken chipotle wrap delicious filling, cheesy, has a kick of spice to it, and comes with side salad. They also serve happy hour drinks (cocktail, beer, and wine).
They accept cash, card, and bank transfer for payments.
Overall, it was a great experience here at Sol D7. Would recommend this place for couples, families, groups, and even for people to hang out here for the drinks and food. Definitely coming back...
Read moreWhat a fabulous experience with amazing ambience and food. A group of friends and I decided to join during soft opening and shared a few delicious dishes including the beef cheek (to die for), shrimp toast (a classic), and the whipped chèvre (like no cheese you’ve every tried). The service was absolutely fantastic and we were waited on perfectly while we dined. It was a friends birthday, and the owner came over and offered us a bottle of whiskey to celebrate, and that’s exactly what we did.!
I had such a nice time I decided to come back just two weeks later with more friends, and although it was super wet and we were meant to sit at the cabanas Emilie, the manager, made us feel so special and put us in a VIP room! What an experience! We ended up trying the beef Tataki (so good), BBQ calamari (delicious) and the cauliflower dish... all just great! Emilie even came out later with free shots for us... she even was able to let us sit outside in the cabana for our final drink of the night.
We can’t wait to go back once they’re open in the day to enjoy the pool and sun! Otherwise, we will definitely...
